    Morning all,

What: 8M am easy recovery run on grass, 8M steady pm.
    Why: recovery & aerobic training

    Last hard: Thur
    Last rest: 8 day's

Had to make a hard decision this week.
It's Kent League XC today, a 2.5hr round trip for me & no clubmates wanting to race.
    or
Dover 1/2 tomorrow as a training run with my new training group, a 15min drive away.

It really makes me sad to have had to choose Dover, I could have done both, but XC should be a team thing!
I've been team manager 5yrs & never have we finished a team in the Kent League [4 men round 4 races!]
Feels like the end of something but I'm hopefull Sunday is the start of something :-)

    enjoy your day/weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Morning all

    BT
I feel the sadness in your post what a shame no team mates wanting to race it and I know you love x country...lets hope next year will be different. At my club they usually have about 5 teams for the XC events for the chaps so i guess we are realy lucky that they all love XC.
(next weekend is our Welsh championships but lovely in my home town)

Good luck for tomorrow and all racers

I have a 10K tomorrow so on strict orders 10 minute warm up 200 metres sprints 10 minute recovery run that is all!!! got told off very sternly that my recovery run yesterday 7 miles in 65 minutes was to fast and to long!!!!it should have been max 40 minutes and only 3 miles the most!!!!!

I am after advice for tomorrow do I:
    1. Start fast and give it all I got
    2. Start slow for 5 minutes then speed up
    3. Start slow 10 minutes then speed it up

Good luck out there today and glad to see so many wearing shorts,

Welcome back Lizzie hope you had a great trip home!!

    Big Tim,

    Time to change your club.

Welsh Poppy - I would say go for a fourth option start nice and steady (not slow!) and wind up half way.

What: 95% certain that today like whole of this week will be nothing as leg still not feeling right. But might just go out anyway as fed up to the back teeth. Am beginning to get more and more worried as I just can not shift this niggling constant pain.

Good luck to all racing - which I was out there with you all

    Simon, be careful.

Big Tim, interesting dilemma. I was thinking about this the other night in terms of the 6 and 12 stage relays. The people at our club who tend not to do them are those who have come into running late (late 20s / early 30s) through the route of entering a few local races then deciding to join a club for people to train with / socialise with. To them the Sunday 10k / HM is the main event.

On the other hand there are people like yourself who have been brought up from a junior through a club set up where you always competed in club meetings for points for the team. To you the club meetings / relays / team events are the main thing.

I used to be firmly in the former camp but over the last year I've moved over to the latter, partly as a result of taking part in events like the National 12 Stage at Sutton Park and partly throught the influence of people like you and MikeB. Reading and listening to people like Bill Adcocks, Ron Hill, Gordon Pirie etc makes you realise where the soul of British Running lies. Really looking forward to next Saturday's National XC.

In our relays we never have the best runners available, but the runners who have the club ethos.

    Oh yeah, daily training...

    What: 2 x 6 mile easy runs.

    Why: recovery day

    Last hard: Friday

    Last rest: 22 days

Have a good weekend whatever way the wind blows.

    Morning everryone,

I sympathise too BT as my club aren't even affiliated to the x-country league, which makes me feel sad as I too love x-country. I suppose like you I ran it as a young girl as part of a team, not as an individual.

Good luck tomorrow with your race.

WP-be good and do as you're told!:o) Get that pb girl!

Good luck all other racers this w/end!

NE-wish it were me going to the exhibition, have fun!

    what:rest

Well, my beloved has b*******d off to the Seychelles on an all expenses paid trip. Without me. And yes, I could have gone and abandoned the children. But no, I have chosen to spend Valentine's day with my truly beloveds! Oh and run a cross country race to boot.

Morning everyone, its a dull, dank and drizzly morning on the North East Coast.

What: Steady 77'32" run up and down the local hills, an easy 11 miles.

Why: Just having an easy before tomorrows XC run

    Last hard: Yesterdays fartlek

    Last rest: 10 days

Simon - look after that leg

Welsh Poppy - don't start too slow (but don't do an eyeballs out either), in my best XC run I had 3/4 competitors that I wanted to beat all in front of me on the last lap. They went off much quicker than me at the start. As my race went on I reeled the in and I got stronger knowing that sometime I was going to pass them - and I did.

Tomorrow we have out 5th of 6 XC events. For the first time ever our little club is in danger of picking up both the senior mens and ladies titles - exciting stuff. On the down side I am not (at this moment in time) in good enough form to help the team, thankfully there are plenty of quickies in there picking up the points.

    Have a good day.

Bad dilema BT. Interesting that club members opting against club events in favour of individual ones. our club has a situation tomorrow when it's last race of XC season but it clashes with Liversedge 1/2M which is pretty local. I don't know anyone who is doing 1/2M. We must be a bunch of mudlarks. Good luck in Dover by the way.

SiT - Good luck with comeback but take it easy.

    Good luck all other racers.

    As for me.....

    what - gentle 3-4 miles
why - gentle loosener for XC tomorrow
    last hard - Thurs
    last rest - Fri

    Morning all.

Joining M's theme, extra good luck to Petrified Hippo. I'm petrified too, and I'm not even doing it. Ordinary good luck to all the other racers.

Shame, BT. I'd go with club races where there's a choice too. On the other hand, it IS XC......

Today, nowt. 30 of South Lincs's undulatingest K's tomorrow, so I'm spending the day watching footy & rugby on the box, trying to settle the raging debate about how much coffee/tea is too much.

    Have fun.

    hello

What: probably rest, maybe short run later

Why: unplanned :o( feeling below par - hopefully be ok for a run tomorrow, may run later if I perk up a bit.

Interesting comments about club vs individual races - would try to support club in that situation myself unless it is a lost cause (like it seems to be in this case BT). Shame really.

what - 20 miles on bike - well 2*10 really - set out a couple of minutes early hoping the local chain gang would catch me and I could tag on for a bit - they did but about 100 yards from the cafe so it wasn't too much of a workout. At least I was on my mates fixed so that saves me cleaning the bike.

Haven't run for 4 days now - and only 2 of the last 13 - calf feels fine but people seemed to think it still looked slightly swollen yesterday - fairly low down at the back, medially and laterally almost like a thickened band a few inches wide - not obvious unless you compare it with the other leg. I'm not totally convinced I just don't have asymmetrical muscles so I'm doing Stamford tomorrow and see how it goes.

As far as cross country/league events go I must admit in our club I don't feel much of a need to run for the club because most of them don't train to anything like their potential and we are battling to avoid the wooden spoon in every league we enter - what's the point?

I haveposted on the other Saturday thread so as not to show favouritism. I could offer what one of my other selves will be doing in a parallel universe on this one, but not having communicated with any alternative me's it'll have to be what I said before- a short run and possibly something on the turbo trainer.

I have posted up notices about the 12 and 6 stage road relays, to see what interest I get. If I get one or two names mine will also go down as no doubt will Dereks (mens captain) it isn't something I have ever taken part in before, but anything that can get people participating count me in. I joined my club specifically so I could be part of a cross country team- it is a short season, not lots of races and breaks the monotony of road training and racing. I can not understand why any club member would not at least wish to trot round to make up numbers, can always arrange to run back afterwards if it is a long run day.

We are having a real increase in numbers at the club new members and old members returning after being "named and shamed" in the RIP (Run In Private) section of the newsletter. We have extra coal carrying sessions taking place on Wednesdays to get people doing a variety of events- wierd and wonderful as well as conventional, I am hoping that this diversity will encourage people to have a go at new stuff as well as commit to team cross countries etc. The reason I burble on is that 6 months ago I was really thinking of leaving then decided with Derek to give it a year, get on the committee and see if we could inject a bit more life into things, so far it is working.

Actually my name should be first on the list, I will rectify that on Tuesday.

Hey Popsider- when I was at Morley we were masters in wooden spoon recievership, it was a lot of fun being the underdog
  • Options
I know and I don't mind being underdogs - but team events only work if everyone in the team wants the team to do well - at least a little bit - I don't think most of our club really care they just turn up for a run and to meet the other club members. There's only a couple of us have any idea where we are in the league - it's never pinned on the noticeboard and stuff like that.

Lots of positive wishes winging your way, hippo. I hope it goes well.

Good luck to all other racers.

BT, I do sympathise. I used to run a lot of cross-country and our club went from winning the league to not fielding a full team in a few year. I ended up for the last 3-4 years running each week as a team but being the only one there.

What: 10 km easy, on way to meet a friend for coffee
Why: Run - recovery day, coffee - will be great to catch up!
