Hi All,
So having said I was only ever doing one Ironman I found myself looking for the next one just hours after finishing Weymouth. A week and a bit later I've been talked into potentially doing The Brutal in Wales (which I wanted to do) but doing the double rather than just the full! (Next Sept, I've got a year to train.) I'm stupidly exited by this prospect but also wondering about my sanity in equal measures.
Who's done the Brutal or any double IM? How was it? Care to talk me out of this or reassure me that it's an awesome idea!?
Thanks!

Loved it minus some stomach issues that had started a couple of days before. Seemed to recover quickly enough which I'm hoping is a good sign.
Would you not want to do it quicker - or does that not float your boat ?
Just doing the Brutal sounds hard enough - but double brutal....
I think that is a bit mad....
I'm not sure I would want to do it again quicker, just because when I've done repeat marathons etc sometimes I've found focusing on time means I lose some of the enjoyment of soaking up the atmosphere, chatting to people etc etc.
Yeah I did have the thought that the full Brutal was hard enough! I don't actually know anyone that's done it though. I probably wouldn't even be considering this is a friend I tried to drag into the full Brutal wasn't so set on doing the double!
Thanks! Have emailed you.
Lots and lots of long bikes, IIRC I did 4/5 150 mile plus rides, tipping out at 185 miler as the longest
A couple of ultra run races and a bit of swimming (3 x 5k swimathons in April was the max)
PM me if you want to know more, out in Mallorca for the IM this week
Double sounds hideous to me. Just one IM tri round there is more than enough for me.
No change there then...
People always seem to talk nonsense when KK is around
It also looks like I'm talking nonsense too!
Thanks decadave. Ah, so you didn't do the full 224 miles before the event? Did you find that worked? Will PM you tomorrow.
Will be interested to know what you decide to do.
Mousey - no - didnt do the full 224 miles - 184 was the longest I did (which was Derbyshire to Essex)
if its the Brutal double - then I would suggest some hills
Thanks! Sorry, I didn't PM in the end.... I'm going to India in a few hours so things got busy!
I'm going to go for it in the end (!) but Pudge you're very right, I accept with this that there is a real prospect of a DNF, especially if e.g the weather turns crazy on Snowdon.
Hills will most definitely be happening! Thanks all.
If you're a facebook user apply to join the Enduroman Events group, lots of useful posts from people used to going seriously long.
Not doing the Double but signed up to the Full after volunteering this year. I'm sort of looking forward to it...
I am also currently planning my year around the double brutal. I won't enter until April/May but currently I'm pretty set on it
