Beetroot juice & fast heart rate?

I've tried beetroot juice twice. Once 2-3 hours before a race and once 12 hours before. Both times I've had an elevated heart rate (for a given level of exertion) during the warm up. Maybe 10-15 beats higher than it normally would be at an easy pace. Very disconcerting. The first time I attributed it to pre-race nerves, but the second time was only a ParkRun, which isn't something that would make me nervous. Would be interested to know if anyone else has had a similar experience?

I've never heard that before, or read of any link between the two. Habe you since ran without drinking it and things have been fine?
