Intercostal muscle strain - help!

I've had a horrible cough and strained my intercostal muscles coughing. The cough has finally died down but I still can't run because my chest hurts! Anyone had this? How long did it take to settle down? Any tips for getting this to heal faster? Would laser or ultrasound be useful?
