Running a marathon for the first time and need some training advice. My current training plan has my long runs each week as:
Half Marathon distance
5x28mins
6x28mins
7x28mins (longest run)
Then cooling off a cpl weeks before marathon.
Now i started the plan 2 weeks earlier to count for any injuries or illness which ,touch wood, haven't affected me yet. This means I have 2 extra weeks. I was going to insert them into the plan like this:
Half marathon distance
5x28mins
5x28mins
6x28mins
6x28mins
7x28mins
But I wondered if inserting some shorter runs as recovery weeks would be more beneficial instead? I'm not s massive runner so these distances are starting to hurt now. Any advice would be ace

ok. I have engaged the start 2 weeks early method before to legislate for weather, illness, life etc and ended up not having issues. I thin the answer depends on this-
1. You have 2 spare weeks. When is the mara?
2. Between now and the mara, does your schedule have any cut back weeks anyway?
3. How are you feeling, do you need more cutbacks?
For me, I try not to mess with the last 5 weeks as they are designed generally to take you to a peak and then taper you off. March can still lead to bad weather however (the two most disruptive periods last year were in March).
Theres still 3 weeks before marathon after a do the longest run. The plan has me running less. I am starting to struggle with the longer runs so I don't want to over do it and injur myself.
