Race day

I train quite hard for races but when it comes to race day I start the race and about 1k into it my legs feel lifeless I feel like I have no energy and just want to stop but when it comes to training I feel fine strange I know does anyone suffer from the same and does anyone have any ideas on how to get round this ?     heps, sounds very similar to me when I do shorter races, where I have to try to run a bit faster than I would really like. I regularly do a 3k race, and feel exhausted after only 5 mins, only way round it is to ease back slightly before pushing hard again.

    Do you warm up throughly before racing, I would never warm up for a marathon, I can do that in the first mile, but try to warm up for 10ks and less.
