noakes' lore of running has an ultra section dodge.

Lore is scarey though ed, I like my running books to be titled things like "Running is a piece of pi$$." "Running is one foot in front of the other - a little more quickly than walking." & "No I'm not about to Sh*t myself, I'm a runner. Fool! now get out of my way because I'm about to sh*t myself."

John Parker's "And Then the Vulture Eats You" has some good tales

especially about grissly bears!

Another good inspirational book is Mike Cudahay Wild Trails to Far Horizons: Ultra Distance fell running. A true goliath of perseverance.

I've bought a few books over this last week and pretty much all of them are coming from the States, is Ultra bigger over there?

I get the impression it is, but then they've got more room for those 100 mile trail races that they do.

You could do worse than "A Step Beyond:
A Definitive Guide to Ultrarunning" order from www.ultrarunning.com. Its American but as you say the Ultra scene is larger in the USA. There are some good books on ultra running available in South Africa, can't remember the titles at the moment but a google search might find something.
