writing this for my dad - he suffers really badly even when running for just an hour, and ends up covered in blood, not a good look! any suggestions for prevention of joggers nipple?
Agree with DW. Micropore Surgical Tape (Boots own brand made by 3M)is available from Boots for about £1.50 for 5m x 1cm. One inch on each nipple will do the trick. Sticks well and many of us forumites swear by it.
someone here has been going on about the virtues of bodyglide for some time as a non-staining alternative to vaseline. I was able to get some at the New York expo and rather rashly used it in the marathon without trial and have to report that it was fine thankfully.
Am giving Nipguards a go at the moment. So far so good - FYI their basically a corn plaster with what looks like greased paper stuck over the top to form a barrier from your vest. They are a expensive so a bit much for everyday use. Bought these from London City Runner near St Paul's.
The easiest and cheapest way to avoid joggers nipple is a couple of sticking plasters! Use the cheaper varieties though, their less painfull to remove!
Vaseline is good but can wear off over a Marthon. I used Dr.Scholls moleskin. Comes off easily in the shower after the race. Also, spray on bandage is good, but looks really weird.
I found that steristrips (things they patch up small cuts with) are really really good Cheap from the chemist - Similar to micropore - you can cut them to size, so they stick to the skin, but can avoid the chest hair of the hairiest lizard. Plus 2 in a "X" pattern will cover a mans nips comfortably...
ran windsor (hot day) in them very slowly - I usually bleed freely after an hour, but not a mark after 2.5 hours.

What I've tried successfully in the past are:
Vaseline on each nipple. If this doesn't work he could also try using corn pads (not plasters) from boots. The waterproof variety seem to stick best.
Alternatively, you could try NipGuards although they are expensive and I don't know where you can get them from.
One of the most popular suggestions for this from a previous thread though was Micropore tape which appearently works really well.
