Hello Ian, I will see you there if you do mean Tooting, I presume you don't mean the other October 24 hour which is in the Czech republic the next weekend and is the world championship. Anyway, if I look carefully at my start list I'll see you're on it (or not!!) Doncastor isn't on now, after 2002 no one could take on the organising of it. So Hull and Tooting are the only ones in the UK now.
In answer to the above messages, yes I shall be running (and walking!) at Tooting in October - and I am not a doctor!
As far as a target for Tooting is concerned, never having done a 24hr race before, its dificult to have any clear expectations until I've done it. Ask me again after the event!
THe best plan is Candy's, I will be doing something similar, running 20 minutes and walking a lap. I can keep going like that until about 15 hours, then have to improvise depending on conditions. Last year at Tooting my legs started to sieze up during the walks with the cold night air and it took longer to get back running. Its important to eat and drink regularly, and try and have a routine so you don't start to lose energy. Don't go out hard withthe guys at the front even if it seems ok, wait till 6 or 8 hours and they'll be coming back to you (except this year there's some good overseas runners entered). I did that last year and finished 4th!
Any forum folk coming to cheer us on? Candy was there last year when me and Ed ran it, it seemed like a mini forum social was going on thatwe weren't really invited to! It was nice to have people there.
2nd time at Doncastor my favourite lap counter from the year before swapped with someone else so she could count my laps, after that I always had her counting me (and she did 12 hour shifts).
[been running around, now fully reovered from injury woes of first half of this year... but been very busy at workand doing the degree thang as well!
Should finally oh finally had an MRI scan and an Arthrogram on Monday. Seeing consultant in two weeks time and book my op - which looks to be early part of next year!]

you'll look like a complete idiot for the first six hours, but then for the rest of the race you'll progress up the leader board.
i did one following a plan like this on no other specific training, and did 100 miles +.
get some trainers two sizes too big in case your feet swell up.
take lots of red bull.
ignore any blisters - after an hour or so the pain goes away, even if they are raw.
But are you a doc?
i might know you
look on training for tim's thread too...
what other running experience do you have?
what training have you done to date? (bit late now anyway!)
what's your target for tooting?
