Ok all you docs out there - I went to the GP today, my first visit for 10 years. I think I have excersize induced asthma but that's another story.
While I was there I had the lecture about smears etc, then she took my blood pressure. The first time the machine failed - then it showed 185/48!!! My pulse rate was 46ish. She took it again on the other arm 181/56 pulse rate 52. Do I worry or wot??

not on one reading
especially after a lecture!
you need several readings, perhaps in a leess stressful situation
slapppppppp
Nurses are NOT there to be fancied
noooorty!
Tell him Cdk
Don't know why, but if you compare them to 'proper' spygmomanometer and stethoscope readings, taken by someone who knows what they are doing, the results are quite different.
He took the g/f's bp with an electric machine that was 2 TWO years out of calibration test... looked at the result and suggested she saw a Doctor.... She pointed out she is a Doctor and if she saw a pb that high she would call an ambulance if she was at the gym !!!! Exit "highly trained" instructor
i DO
hee hee dave
By the way - it's ok to fancy the nurses!!! It's a look but don't touch situation ;0)
well whats your BP at home?
If thats fine then ignore em
I have a couple at work - I will check it out next week.
The puzzling thing for me is the wide gap twixt systolic and diastolic!! I've never seen that before.
When is blood pressure much to low? And can someone feel like fainting with a low blood pressure? And is there anything you can do, except eating salty things?
My regular blood pressure is something like 60/90. But 50/80 isn't an exception. And sometimes I feel like fainting.
yes, low BP can make you feel faint
if its just low BP without symptoms it is good
mnaybe you need a few tests to check out why
My brother also has a low blood pressure like I do. Most of the time I haven't got any problems with it.
Just sometimes I feel faint when getting out of bed. On other times, when I can't eat when I need to, I start to feel faint (but that can be because I need food). But it's a different faint, then when I'm just hungry.
If at all worried, get yourself checked out!
as a doc, i try to encourage my peeps with high blood pressure to exercise!
I suppose that's one way of reducing the waiting lists...
bedrest for high blood pressure went out with the ark
(I can think of better ways to reduce the waiting lists)
