There's The Complete Runner in Nelson (between Burnley & Colne) which I've always found helpful. The other branch is in Ilkley.

    Nigel G,

If you don't mind travelling, try 'Running Bear' in Alderley Edge, the owners are both serious runners and are really helpful.

Since it was recommended to me i haven't been anywhere else since, they always have what i need.

    Try their website...

    www.runningbear.co.uk

Although i must admit, their website doesn't do the shop justice, they have loads to offer in the shop.

    Good Luck

Depending on how far you are able to travel, Pete Bland Sports on the High Street in Kendal is good (www.peteblandsports.co.uk) or, there is a Sweatshop at a gym comples just off the M61 Motorway by Botany Bay. If you know what you are after sweatshop.co.uk is good.

Nigel, don't know how far bolton is from Hyde, but there's an Up and Running there, I went on Saturday and they've got some nice stuff, and a fair amount discounted too - needless to say I came out of the shop with a considerably lighter wallet and a bagful of new goodies!

Sara - quite a few in London. Runners Need just opened near Liverpool Street which is quite good - go on a Saturday as all the City people aren't there then.

Others include - Sweatshop (lots of branches, look under sweatshop.co.uk), Run & Become near Victoria (mixed reviews on here & frequently very busy), Lillywhites has some running gear though probably not best for new shoes. I'm sure that there are many more - try posting a thread on the gear column as the experienced runners who know these things (that is, not me) don't venture on to this one much.

As others have mentioned, Running Bear in Alderley Edge and Up and Running in Hyde are both very good. Also, there is a Tobutt Sports in Bolton (01204 308506) and I've heard that the guy who owns it knows what he's talking about when it comes to finding trainers for running.
