TMR - don't worry, I know that technique is only part of the picture and I agree with the high-mileage approach (even though I feel like I'm building up again from near-zero).
The mayflys are the lightest shoe around by virtue of their upper. I don't think the midsole is particularly minimal at all. I expect some other 'mainstream' racers would feel better.
Anyone remember the old adidas neftanga? I think they would do a better job of providing a bit more cushioning than RC150s, without disrupting the natural feel so much.
B, Alex. I don't like the Mayflys particularly. Like Alex says, raised arch.
I've managed to train myself to run pretty efficiently now but form does go slightly as I tire (I did a treadmill test at the Sports Centre at Leeds Met. Univ.). I'm finding I'm doing a lot of running in a very old and well used pair of Tiger Paws at the moment. They aid a midfoot style.
So the Mayflys and 150s are out for a marathon. Still not sure...
Might try the Nike Marathoners, but being a Yorkshire man I'm loath to pay more than £30 for a pair of trainers!
BR. What are these? Suede upper?! Are they a fashion shoe or a racer? :-) Never heard of the make. While I'm here, anyone got a suggestion for a shoe similar to the Nike ventulus. Seems you can only get hold of this in a size 3!
Has anyone else tried Adistar Competitions? I got them cos I was bored and have to say they are excellent with far better cushioning than I expected at 200g, nicer than the wave riders I had!
Was maybe looking at the DS Gel Trainer 10; have been looking for a replacement for my NB 750's, which they no longer seem to do in my size (what *is* it with NB and sizing/ discontinuing models? Weird.)
Although I see a shop in the Midlands is doing 834's for £40 - looks from the gear page like these might cause blisters though.
Been having lots of probs with my right foot recently. Think it stems from the 10 miler I did in DEec - I got blisters on my left foot from 3 miles in they were killing me. I wonder whether my rigth foot over-compensated, and combined with my new action, where I supinate, it's over-stressed the foot.
For over two weeks it's been very frustrating. It's felt like it just needs to "click back into place". I've had an ache on my instep morph into pain at the base of my toes, morph into sharp pain on my ball of my foot, and back to the instep again etc! Up until yesterday I was walking like a cripple - it made me even more irascible than ever!
Thankfully seems to have solved itself now - such relief!
Here are some pics of my Puma H Street 'house slippers'. Not sure how long they will last as the right one has developed a small 1.5cm hole on the fabric-uppers near the outer-lateral edge: - Uppers - Soles
According to my training notes I've owned them for 10-11 months, and have done about 800miles on them. I often wear them for normal outdoor use. They get washed often in w/m cold water but no detergents.
I think the picture quality is pretty good for SE K750 mobile phone !!
PS: Barnsleyrunner, the Puma's are RED - not orange ;-)
nrg-b - you clearly have very impressive technique. Mine are showing more wear towards the heel after much fewer miles. Not that I land on my heels, but I must scrape them.
As to the orange/red debate, I'd have to see them to judge fairly. Anyone can mess about with the colour of electronic images...
:-)
I've been doing 4-mile runs in my Teva Protons (still the most slipper-like shoes I've run in) and feeling good, so my technique must be improving.
SVT I want at least one pair as well they are supposed to be released in march but i have seen them on a website for a london shop so not sure where they r getting them from http://www.foot-patrol.com/view_model.php?ask_id=00003072
Umm I'm way late in my suggestions here, but other lightweight shoes I know of are the Nike Free (very interesting concept - want to pick some up) or the Nike Mayfly. I wouldn't mind a pair of either.
I tend to wear out the midfoot outer-lateral edge first (for example see Puma images a few posts above). This gets me about 1000miles+ from NB150s outdoor pavement running/racing.
I don't bin them as I use them for indoor treadmill running.
Thinking about using DS Racers for FLM. Might try them in a 20 in a couple of weeks. Have run in the Nike Marathoners before which I thought were pretty good for marathon distance.
I found nike marathoners too much of an out n out racer...I have opted for the nike pegasus TC which a well cushioned lightweight shoes....I have done a half and a 20m (as well as tempo runs) and these are the ones for me !
Just seen the fivefingers, really really want a pair! I suppose though they could be a problem if you don't have "perfect" feet, as I have quite long toes and narrow feet, it looks as though they are more suited to a square foot. I still do all my running in h streets and off road in nike jarowe waffles and all my recreational time in vivo barefoots.
Now that some of us are getting ready for winter base-training & spring marathons I thought I'd boing this thread with a yet another mild reference in favour of minimalist foorwear.

Not desperate. She has two pairs on the go (which are lasting well) and two pairs in waiting.
However, I agree with you. I follow the high mileage regime too ie last week was 60mpw. Objective is to be much higher.
Patience is a Virtue :-)
The sole seems odd to me, and I don't like shoes that don't have a raised arch, so I'm interested to hear your perspective.
My two-penny worth:

Don't know if you can still get them though.

I'm not that light so horses for courses I guess
They do look very interesting.
Also, how do the DS Racers compare to the Ekidens?

For those of you who use NB RC150s, how many miles usage do you normally get out of them before they get binned?
Cheers!
Dave
I don't bin them as I use them for indoor treadmill running.
Hope they're ok :-)
