Will my broken toe ever heal?

About six months ago I broke my big toe in two places after a lunging tackle went horribly wrong playing football. Three months later I was able to run on it again with hardly any pain and thought that the injury was over. However, it still seems to ache after most runs and I'm getting to the point where I think it will never heal!!

I don't suppose anyone has had a similar injury and can spread any light on the subject can they?
