when I was learning to swim and breathe on both sides - sure I did something like use a float on my good side (breathing to the RHS so right arm) to hold it stationary - use the other arm as normal for crawl and breathe on that side (the float stopped me taking on too much water when it went wrong) .... then get rid of the float and try it with both arms crawl and breathing on the hard side, then beginning to alternate ... i think.
hellrunner - not really 'ard as nails' ... just stupid ... and fancied a bit of fun!
Yeah, I think I may try the float thing today, I just don't seem to be as 'flexible' on the leftside and the rotation needs to be fiddled with...it just feel as 'natural'!
Kids are growing up fast... our five are definatly hitting the 'teenage' phase....oh joy
Tia, my one side is far better than the other. I think it's just the way it is. My hair is the same. The left hand side behaves itself better than the right hand side!
The 17, 15 and 12 year old are Jons' kids and the 14(today) and 11 year old are mine, quite a house full as you can imagine!
In the Total Immersion book we have it says everyone tends to have a chocolate and vanilla side, the chocolate being the 'natural' breathing side and that you need to spend quality time evening up the balance.
hope it goes ok today tia - maybe it'll just take slightly longer for the 'flexibility' to come?
I'm impressed you have 5 kids - I don't have any and wouldn't know where to start (beyond the obvious).
Cake sounds good though - I still try and make hedgehog cake (my mum used to make it but i'm really a bit old for it - but I still love it so make it myself now!)
PS- I have hidden a big chocolate cake so she is till clueless about that little surprise for after school. (see I definatly don't neglect my 'chocolate' side !!)
Hedgehog cake! Fantastic! My best friends mom used to make them, they were gorgeous. All his prickles were made with buttons and matchmakers.
OK sorry to go on about it again, but I'm really cross. So, what do I do? Do I let it go or do I say something? I feel that the moment has passed now and he'd probably deny saying it.
Back to the swimming, I had sessions where I only breathed to my weakest side. It was pretty hard and I always felt I never got as much air in.
squish - hedgehog cake is really easy to make and tasty.
more seriously - you could go to HR and say that his comment made you feel uncomfortable if you are that upset - or you could contact him, request a meeting on monday and say to him that you felt his comment was unacceptable in the workplace - if you could take a friend as a witness that would be good too? or if he has an equal then you could ask them for advice (unoficially - but it will let them know he was out of order).
swimming - i think it comes with time - i learnt to breathe on both sides when young, find left not quite as strong but not an issue any more.
I don't know Squish, I think I would find it hard to dismiss that comment even if it was 'relaxed' atmosphere at work, I'd have to think of a comment to say to him just at the right time...in the future when he'd least expecting it. Scorpio you see, I never forget, and have a lil sting in my tail.
Ohhhh Azac, did you really get that out of your bum?
thanks for your comments. IC that sounds like a good idea. I've emailed Crashie and told him, I'm waiting to see what he thinks. Hopefully he'll say "tell him to feck orf and hand your notice in"...
Hope (and sure he will be) Crashie is supportive and you can find a solution Squish - i've unfortunately got some experience in icky managers so if you want to chat offline - fmail me on fetch.
Comments
I'd get escorted off site for a comment like that.
No kidding. Even if it was intended in a jovial manner he's stepped well over the line, in fact he's gone so far he's got lost.
Azac - That's pants. Go to scotland and buy one.
TT - 14!

Jeez! We're all here today!
Squish - let it go. The moment has passed I'm afraid. But the kipper idea is good.
Or maybe go and let his tyres down, or leave a big greeny on his windscreen or run a rusty nail along the car or....
Is is ok if I still pick my bum?

We don't even have a HR department here! We're a big company, 1400 + employees, I'm sure we should have one!
Crashie is always supportive, he's a love, that's why I married him
<crawls under desk, picks furtively>
