As a newcomer to this forum chat lark, can someone please explain all these abbreviations(lol, btw etc etc) and what is the proper etiquette if any that should be used.
Tim generally I think the forums try to avoid 'chatspeak' mainly out of choice although there are some forumites who use it. The chances are though it's easier to converse using long hand and just use the eupemisms like 'lol' to express laughter when you find something funny. Also people tend to use alot of emoticons... have you come across those..?
or ) is a smile
or ;o) is a wink
or :oP is pulling tongue out
:? or ? is confused
and there are shed loads more you'll come across - just ask what they mean, people don't mind.
DS is the Darkside, but I think that needs some explanation! A rather weird place where the caht gets surreal, but then it's spread into other areas URWFRC - Unnoficial Runners World Forum Running Club - a virtual running club Hilly - female
Running Tim, I'm no mathematician, but there must be an equation that show foul language increases directly as a result of contact with teenagers. Could change nickname to Sweary Mary?
BTW I quite fancy being reprimanded by old scowly there, anyone that's already that red in the face would be toooo easy to tip over the edge hehehe.
(see how I lose my bottle the closer to Monday morning we get. Wolfy's going to be like a bear with a sore a*se ae it is after the week-end's binge-drinking. The thought of not having a drink till April is unlikely to improve her mood.)
Just be thankful there's an abscence of teenagers on the forum. They have a language all their own.... "Gng 4 rn ths evng, so CU L8R M8" etc...
And I had no idea there were assorted Hippos - this needs clarification. Are all Hippos Benz? Or Ruth? Who's who? And why? In fact, I had no idea Hippos were female, although it stands to reason, I guess...
