I'm hoping for some sage advice from the experienced runners here. My problem is that I would like to increase my comfortable running speed but have a problem with injuries when i do speed work.
At present, I can comfortably run at 7.45-8 min miles without risking injury but I would like to do 7.30's for FLM.
I had to pull out of last years FLM with a stress fracture of the lower leg, primarily caused by overtraining which included 3 speed sessions every two weeks.
The temptation is great to do the speedwork as it simply works, getting me down to comfortable 7min mile pace for 22 miles last year before I had to stop with injury.
Any suggestions?

Limit sessions to one a week, and don't increase either speed or number of reps too quickly.
Good luck - see you at FLM!
