RC, it's not England playing so everybody's got to get their priorities right and come and run the Forest Five. If anyone wants to see the football that badly, they could always record it. Or we could have the lead runners towing a giant screen behind them.

Hopefully all the midges will be watching the game, and not eating me. This is a GREAT RACE, but PUT TROUSERS ON AS SOON AS YOU'VE FINISHED, as the midges love sweaty legs.

I wish the midges would go for my legs. In the last two years I've inhaled and swallowed several million of the little beasts. KKD - I'd sooner have a Mars Bar than Pierce Brosnan or the football. This probably makes me a very sad case.

Trying to bounce back from injury but too nervous to do a 10k (or Woodland Series 5miles going on 7) so this sounds perfect.

What's the course like though - is it hilly (my knees hate downhills!), narrow paths or wide trails?....

There are some hills, but not too bad. Some of us are probably going to run (slowly) around the course sometime between now and June 21st, so if you're reasonably local, you might want to join us.

In common with many races that start and finish in (more or less) the same place, there are far more up hills than down hills.

It's all wide trails that are in good condition.

The memento is usually good and the Mars Bar, eaten with a clear conscience, is reason enough.

I live in Slough and have been running for about 1 1/2 weeks now. I can do around 2.5 miles on a run and know that i have run it without feeling completely like my name for the next day. Would this run be a good one or is it too soon?

I think you may find it too much too soon. On the other hand, there is no law against walking some of it if need be...

The slowest runners do come in at around about the 1 hour mark (1:03 in 2005 and 58 mins in 2004).

Without being unkind to the people who take about an hour to get around, I think a good walker could walk the race in about 1:15, so it is not that much faster than a fast walking pace. The marshalls and sweepers keep the tail end runners company with friendly chat and no attempts to hurry those people along - maybe a bit of encouragement to keep them going, though.

I would say give it a go, but start off really steady to give yourself a better chance of running most of the distance rather than burning out early on and having to walk lots. Good luck if you do decide to do it.

I would be willing to do the route one evening at a nice steady pace if people wanted to see what the course is like and to familarise themselves with the up and downhills.

I may enter this year having helped out with the last few years. Then again it always seems nice to help out and I may just do that this year!!!

I will say it is a no pressure race really and we have been blessed in the last few years with really nice weather. So feel free to come along.

Eddiiiiieeee, your steady pace is probably still too fast! Don't tell anybody about the hills, you might put them off.

I may help out this year instead of running. That depends on whether my back improves in the next week or so. I'm going to help with the course measuring on the afternoon of the race, though. Anybody want it shortened to four miles?
