I got my pb at Abingdon last year - highly recommend it, only my second marathon and took 30 minutes off my London time earlier that year - so now I can enter London under a good for age cateory - so go for it!!
Forgot to mention earlier, I had been sweating on 3:15:14. I even rang the helpline and they said I wouldn't get it but I sent my application anyway. Needless to say I've filled the form in, put the cheque with it and its off in the post tomorrow!!
See you in April. Perhaps we could all get together before the start and finally put faces to the names
this is a bit of a cheeky thought, but can anyone tell me whether there's any point in applying for the FLM for 2003, knowing that I will almost certainly be rejected, in order to have a better chance of getting into the 2004 FLM? If by some fluke I did get into 2003 I would of course run/walk/waddle and grin throughout, but I don't know anyone who was accepted first time... I'm completely new to running, and ideally I would like to have an 18-month build-up to a marathon, but I figure that if I did get a place for 2003, I'd still have 6 months to prepare...
I know of quite a few people who got in first time. The odds on getting in are the same for first-timers as they are for anyone else (unless you have been rejected 5 times). So get your entry in, and start preparing. If you don't get into London then there are plenty more marathons out there.
There are certain qualifying times for different age groups i.e. if you have run the time then you get an automatic place in the race and don't have to go through the ballot.
Oh cheers Gareth. I will be applying and expect I'd finish in 4-4.5 hours. I applied six years ago and was knocked back so hopefullyt I will get in this time
Folksworth 15 near Peterborough and wyondham 20 near norwich in Jan and March respectively. See you at FLM....cheque has been cashed as I am Good For Age! Fiona

I sent my application letter for the GFA place off last night based on what you told me. Fingers crossed!

Did you get my e-mail? Are you the same Gareth Davies from the valleys then that I knew a few years ago in Germany and revolutionised my training?
Sadly not me (
I would imagine that are quite a few Gareth Davies' in Wales so keep looking!

For men between 18 and 59 the time is 3 hours 15.
