The difference a support shoe makes?

I was following one of the threads last week regarding support shoes or anti pronation shoes and I got to thinking if you're a normal runner or a supinator then would wearing anti-pronation shoes actually do you any harm.

There are a number of sports superstores where I live that sell running shoes without any specialist advice so therefore the man off the street could buy any pair of shoes he liked.

The question seems to be therefore that if such shoes caused injury then either they should contain a health warning (this would particularly be the case in the litigeous USA) or (more likely in my view) - that the actual difference a shoe makes is marginal UNLESS you have some defined bio-mechanical problem, in which case you need orthotics anyway!

Am I mad?
