No sure I count as a pirate, even though I read most of the threads. However, I will be joining you all at Windsor! Hollywood, I need some inspiration on the swim!! Cheques in the post today.
2006: Fleet HM, FLM, various 10k-10m XC races, Eton, Dorney Olympic, Royal Windsor and Helvellyn Tris to finish (poss Saab Hell and Grim8 to come)
2007: Son's school exams make a mess of May next year but probably: Eton, Windsor, Dorney, Helvellyn or New Forest Mid, and poss Abingdon Mara. Was hoping to have a crack at Mont Blanc ultra but they have changed the entry requirements for 2007. Usual XC races in Jan-March for training.
Looking forward to an active Windsor thread as need insipiration to break 2:30 this time.

TH2 - going slightly off topic for a mo : they changed the entry reqs at UTMB because there were some very very scary moments this year when peeps who had never done an ultra (or indeed a marathon or trail race)were spending a second night on top of a mountain in the wind, fog and rain...
Greg, yes I heard about this and having done the route as a backpacking expedition in my youth I have always been amazed at the challenge of doing it in 45 hours. Still trying to find time to do an offroad 80k plus of two 50k races next year will be a challenge if I want o have a crack at 2008.
I didn't. A good friend did. He has lived in Chamonix all his life. Ascended Mt Blanc half a dozen times. Done many alpine marathons and cycle races. Had done thousands of miles on night runs in the mountain in training. He was in tears and ready to give up at km 120, 9000 feet up, at 3 am and after being rained on continuously for the previous 8 hours. He made it to the finish in 41 hours (which he was disappointed by!!!)
U R all as mad as a box of frogs. Why am I even reading this? Why have you made me enter Stratford? Why am I considering Windsor to follow it up when I have never done a Tri?
All this for a sodding yellow T shirt with a skull and crossbones and a silly smile.
3 years ago I was happily smoking 20 a day, had been for 30 years, drank like a fish and easily 70 units a week, lived off of fried sandwiches and dodgy takeaways and was 3 stone heavier. Happiness was face down in the gutter at 3am with your face in dog faeces and wondering why it didn't stink after 10 pints of speshy boo.
You have corrupted me, all of you.
However, I thank you all for keeping me alive. I think.
Almost 1600 entries now, there were only 1500-ish finishers last year so it must be almost full.
I've only just realised that the bike racking has to be done the day before for this event. Windsor is just far enough away for that to be a pain in ar*e, but not quite far enough to justify booking a hotel overnight....dammit!
I know this is the LAST place to look for sensible comments but....
I'm down for Austria on the 8th July and this is then third weekend before and perhaps the start of my taper so: Saturday - do a last long bike ride, finish in Windsor, rack the bike and take the train home Sunday do the Oly on tired legs?
Yeah, no problem. As long as you don't really "race" on Sunday but take it as a 3-stage base-level brick I would have thought you'll be fine. You should be conditioned to cope with 3 hours of exertion with no trouble by that time.
1. If you wear yellow and black in summer and hate wasps, you WILL be fast. A wasp can fly at 35mph. Never used that 21st gear before?
2. I walked past the Thames at Hampton last night. Er, currents, eddies, undertow, need a tow, bashed a toe and probably Cabletow if I looked but crikey it looked a dangerous place.
Dustboy - the Thames at Hampton is insanely high at the moment. The path between Hampton Court bridge and Molesey Lock (on the Molesey side) is submerged under 6 inches of water. It's normaly at least 1.5 foot lower.

Did you compete in 2006?

If we can get the order up to 50 we can get them cheaper.
Give a wave as you all whizz by!
If you do want to do this one entries are going fast - an email from HR recently said that over 1,400 slots had already gone.

Did anybody do similar last year? I'm sure I remember somebody talking about doing the same.
Hoping to go close to 2:40 (hrs that is not time of day), so no great shakes.

Or is that because its tidal there?
Oh im in, entered ages ago and have confirmation.
