I am wondering if anyone has any tips/ideas about how to deal with flies when running. I do a lot of running around the local woods and along canal paths. Particularly at this time of year there seems to be a plethora of flying insects, flies etc. Twice this week I have almost had to stop running because I have swallowed or caught a fly in the back of my throat and had to cough it up!
Is it just me or do others have to deal with this issue. I know I could try running without breathing through my mouth but innevitably I end up doing so even if I try breathing through my nose only.
Just wondering what people think?

Same as you cough it up I am afraid - and try not to think about where the fly may have been.
Just think of it as extra protein
chew
They are quite nice dipped in chocolate .
I must admit I do struggle with it myself and I do try to spit them out before I swallow them. I cant run with my mouth shut.
Another one suffering. I've tried a face mask but I cant breathe so i've just got used to spitting them out. If anyone has a better idea - let me know!
Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!
I have heard people eating stuff like garlic or marmite before a run so their sweat repels insects. No idea if it works!
it does seem to come down to a choice of spitting or swallowing, although most people prefer not to get such a nasty thing in their mouth in the first place.
Or gargling if you want to show off
I hate getting them in my eyes spesh them little ones.
so spit or swallow, avoid getting in the eyes...
Branston Pickle.
This, and some insect repellant especially on face to try to keep them away from your eyes.
wear sunglasses, breath in through nose and out through mouth?
Avon skin-so-soft, liberally applied before a run, seems to keep the little beggars at bay...
WoW! it certainly seems that I am not alone in having this problem... I was beginning to think I might have a body odour problem
I am due to run tomorrow at 6.30am, and will perhaps make this the subject of my mental contemplation as I pound the trail. I do some of my best thinking while running.
Cheers
Do that and it won't only be the insects you'll be repelling
I just eat them. Plenty of sips of water keeps my mouth moist so I can just swallow them before they get stuck in my throat.
If that doesn't appeal, you could cut a bit out of a net curtain and sellotape it round your mouth like a fly screen. You might get some odd looks though!
