This is wandering off topic a bit so best bring it to a conclusion. I vaguely remebered a programme called Cheggers Challenge (this is so sad) so I looked it up and it's real - in the circumstances ChallengeCheggers seems apt, so I'll go with it. Thanks for the suggestions.......I think!
Fraggle Afraid you have the body fat % of a grape so wouldn't be surplised if you found the water colder than most. Good news about thr river swim it's very temping now but still going to be reliant on the bank balance nearer the time.
Let the fun begin - he said. I've just signed up, and paid good money, to do a marathon (Stratford upon Avon) at the end of April next year! If I'm going to do all of Henley next year I thought I'd better make sure I can do the runnin' bit.

That's my winter mostly sorted then!
Chegger's if your local to that end stratford do a good sprint tri in May would be good transition practice for your ironman voyage. http://www.fun2tri.co.uk/stratford/index.htm
Afraid you will also meet a few of the folks off here as well including me but not all bad they do nice bacon butties in the morning.
Oh no, now I will need to make a decision, Bacchus or Henley Half. Simple really, but I will need to train this time, then I could cycle to and from Bacchus.
I keep trying to get excited about Challenge Henley. And every time I look at it, I end up thinking "there must be a more exciting event" . Maybe I'll look again in a few days and it'll have grown on me.
FF - based on recent experience of IMW.... it has the Wow Factor. Bloody horrible but perversely enjoyable, like being waxed, cycling in hail or eating a filthy hot curry.

Shame, was just going to suggest Orville next!
Chegger's/kieth welcome and let the fun begin!

Fraggle - did the guys from the Tri shop manage to lend you a decent wetsuit for the race?
they did indeed Raf, so i as slightly warmer than I would have been had I been in my old too-big one

Frags - Cake may be right - I am carrying my "winter wetsuit" a little early so it protected me from the cold.
Still delighted to report no stomach bugs etc...was expecting to be moving from both ends by now but glad to report nowt!
Challenge have announced that next years event is on 8th September. It clashes with our biggest event of the year and so for that reason, I'm out.
Brave of CH to take on the Bachuus head-on!
Shame they clash

I'm going off the idea of Henley, think IMW is starting to look better for me.

Saves me having to decide between the full and half I suppose
Not going to be too difficult to win a prize at the awards ceremony afterwards if this is the Championship race
Hmmm .. what options do we have instead ??
I would add a disclaimer that moving to Outlaw would be unfair now that entries are closed ....
Is Vichy an option do we think?
HC, are we keen for Vichy?
Here Vichy Vichy Vichy
I would think that the chances of Vichy being reduced were quite high?
Henley was chosen partly for ease of cost and travel, Vichy I think would be quite prohibitive?
That's the royal WE, I should clarify. I ain't IMing next year.
Otherwise Midnight Man it is
Vichy is on 1 Sep, the same day as Ch'TriMan Gravelines (and a week before Bacchus)
Said I wasn't going to go long next year anyway.
Phew!
Aren't you busy elsewhere on 28 July?
I'd think you'd need an event with a large-ish/largest number of entrants so that the following year there are results for that race to be based on?
Assuming Outlaw is out it was this year's event and as Meldy points out the fact it's now closed.
It would be difficult at this stage to change it but also just as difficult to base next years prizes on this years cast of 4 or whatever ?
Challenge Barcelona? 30 September this year
Edit:
Scrub that, 26 May next year
Edit again:
Belay my last; 26 May is the half
