Did first HM a week ago and now need to work out what next. I don't think I am the kind of person that can just run without a training plan and specific target.
I had thought about trying for a Marathon and doing the do a Marathon before I turn 40 malarkey but would need to find one that is predominantly off road. It was Aviemore HM I did and loved first 7 miles on tracks/paths but last 6 on the road were a killer on my back/pelvis (longstanding issue).
Was thinking about focussing on 5k over the winter as have two Parkruns local to me then revisiting in New Year. However concerned if then decide to do another HM or even find a suitable Marathon for later in the year (don't turn 40 till near end of year) I will have lost ability to run longer distances and be back to square 1 as it were.
So any bright ideas? Any events you would reccommend?

Cross-country? I know it's cross-country season and it's one of the funnest events I think.
Apologies for ignorance but always think of Cross Country as a school event! I loved it at school and was actually quite good at it!
How do I find out more?
I would say try a completely different goal- try and smash a 5K PB and then go for a spring half mara or mara goal. Good luck!
Re cross country races. Assuming as you ran Aviemore you are in Scotland. scottishrunningguide.com has a number of races listed
