buying new support trainers

I went to my local running shop and had my gait checked out.  I am now a mild over-pronator and he suggested some support shoes would be best (although he did say it was borderline).  He recommended Saucony Phoenix and Mizuno Nexus shoes and I ran on the treadmill on both.  A friend of mine is also a mild over-pronator and swears by the new Asics Kayano 18 but I have heard mixed reviews on all the trainers.

My questions are: is it worth changing from a neutral to support trainer as i havent had too many issues previously? And what are your views in the trainers suggested or are there any others that you could suggest i try?

Thanks in advance

If it aint broke, dont fix it.

I had the reverse situation where I'd been happily running in mild support shoes, but was advised to buy neutral shoes after a gait analysis.  Six weeks later I had really bad knee pain whenever I ran, and in the end the only cure was to go back to my old trainers.  I've stuck with mild support ever since, and the pain never came back.

As part of the knee investigation I had an appt with a Sport Specialist, that I kept even though the problem had gone after swapping my shoes.  His remark was that even highly qualified physios etc wouldn't be able to give you a definitive analysis afer a couple of mins on a treadmill, so you should take a shop assistant's recommendation as advice rather than the gospel.
