Since leggings for men are apparently the thing to wear, according to the fashion world, it should no longer be such a fashion faux pas for men to wear running tights, knickers, capris and the like, right?
I didn't think it was a faux pas for men to wear running tights - while they're running, at any rate! Surely you should wear what is appropriate and comfortable for the activity?
It isn't a faux pas for men to wear running tights, either full length or 3/4. It is just a few odd people who seem to think so.What is a faux pas is running tights with shorts over the top.
I agree it's not a faux pas but I seem to remember many people think otherwise. As re shorts - have a look at Salazar in Gateshead world cross cross country in 1983 with singlet, shorts and black meggings
He can get away with meggings. But otherwise they are only good for hipsters in oversized retro glasses, advertising agency workers, capuccino drinkers, vegetarians, Guardian readers, fixie riders, skinny-leg chino wearers and other types who are good with colours and enjoy shopping.

Men in tights are fine - not so sure about knckers though.
That's the thing carterusm: if this trend takes hold, the next thing will be no VPL panties for men - guys, this will be the start of a slippery slope, don't go there!
Shorts over tights say "I'm an unconfident man, I want to keep my legs warm but I fear that others will look at my willy and make judgements about it".
Though I (a woman) on the other hand got outside the other day in the wintry cold and understood the meaning of 'freezing your arse off'. Legs were fine, but could have done with the shorts for an extra layer of warmth on my bum.
Re. meggings as streetwear, no thank you. I work at a university and already most of the girls forget to wear any actual trousers. We don't need the boys joining in too.

Are these what my granddad called long johns?

Not quite - these are long johns:
V sexy.....
Although I do have a mate who thinks they are hilarious!
but I'm comfortable in them so I don't care
I wear long johns underneath running tights and shorts over them !!
So the usm bit is somewhat handicapped then?
errrrm no!!
Wear whatever works for you for running but leave that sort of thing in the sports bag!
IMO there aren't that many ladies that look good in them (and I freely admit I'm one of those that don't), let alone men.
The guy in the Guardian actually has quite nice legs and they don't even look right on him
Max Wall does, actually, sum it up pretty well.
Yeah, a bald man with long hair looks ridiculous. What's more, it takes attention from his shapely legs!
Ah yes, Professor Wallofski. Class!

In my ever so 'umble opinion.
Oversize retro glasses like this help, then?

Thong, mankini, suspenders, au naturelle ??
@ carter - so long as you've worn it before race day
I alternate them for my weekend LSR

Leggings for running absolutely, street wear never. Running shorts over tights...why???
Why not?
Well said TC

LOL
If it's cold enough for me to consider wearing tights, there won't be much willy for people to make judgments about. Sorted!
(Meggings for street-wear: no!)
Someone on the Guardian discussion posted a theory about willies being either "fleshy" or "bloody" and that "fleshy" ones aren't so affected.
I've seen the (ahem) evidence but always wondered why that was.
Physics? Theory of relativity?
