I did this race last year and it was pretty awesome!! They do not allow you to wear spikes because the land is owned by the National Trust and they are very fussy about grounds maintenance. Some parts are very muddy and slippery so trail shoes are best. Although I wore my regular road running shoes last year and I was fine.
We run there every week in the summer and road shoes are ok for that but in winter, def. studded shoes, there are some steep descents that can get very slippery.
Feedback from the checking the course today "The course is remarkably dry with very little mud at all, especially next to the river which is virtually bone dry! Can get round in regular running shoes."
Blimey - that is amazing! Trouble is though, it now gives the quandary of what shoes to wear as I'd put out the ones with the biggest studs! I think I'll just switch to some very light trail shoes though rather than racing flats....
So indeed...mny original questions stands! Road shoes (Brooks Defyance 5) or trails shoes (Progrid Peregrine 2)!
Not done this one before. Looking forward to it though apparently it is a hard run! My only other trail experience was last years (2012) Dorney Dash which was in Windsor Great Park due to the olympics. That was wet, muddy and slippery and I wore road shoes as at the time I had nothing else.
Even bone dry a couple of the steep, off-camber downhill corners would need a bit of extra grip to be taken at speed if you don't wnat to end up on your backside - and I can't believe some of those corners will be totally without a bit of slippery mud!!

If it's the same course as last year it involved a bit of everything and I was fine in trail shoes...
Enjoy the steps!! Here's a pic so you know what you're letting yourself in for...twice LOLOLOLOL I loved it!

you wouldn't want to wear spikes anyway looking at that screenshot from Sleepy...
not if you value your knees!
Ok - thanks - I will try my new trail shoes then....

Definitely trail shoes even at the best of times, as there are some very slippery downhills - this year you want them as gnarly as possible!
For the section along (or is it in ??) the Thames though you may well need to change into flippers and snorkel!

Peregrines would be prefect - funny, I have the same shoes as you, plus some spikes for really sticky Cross Countries!

Not as muddy as feared. 90 seconds quicker than last year, must be my new trail shoes!
Well done to the organisers for a great event.
Trail shoes this year for sure!?! Assimung it goes ahead...
