Hi Alan, really looking forward to the race. It is my 1st half marathon and hoping for sub 2 hours even if it is 1:59:59. Are we allowed ipods on the race? Some races havent allowed them. I hope so as it helps me get round!
Yeah, I imagine the adrenaline boost when you go round a bend and narrowly avoid going under a car that you didn't hear coming due to being in iPod land really gets you going!
They allowed ipods at the Central Lancs Half yesterday though the race referee did ask they be kept at a level that allowed hearing a marsall and traffic.
Don't run with one myself but never had an issue with anyone wearing one in a race.
Just a little reminder that entries close on thursday 10th jan at 6pm and we are at 320. Please if you have entered through runners world can you email me with a food preference or i will just order the veg option for all. If possible please car share and when parking listen to the stewards they are there to help. I will send final instuctions to all online entries after the final closing date hope all your training has gone well and see you all on the 20th all the best Alan T.
Hi to everyone you may of heard on the new that we are to be hit with bad weather for the next 3 weeks. I would like to ask you all to cross fingers-toes and what ever else you can think of. I wont cancel the event unless I am advised to by the police an I will cancel in enough time just incase people have accomadation booked but lets hope we dont need to keep your eyes on your emails and on runners world all the best Alan T.
When they cancelled the Central Lancs half a few years ago, and having driven round parts of the course that was the only decision, I ended up going for a pleasant run down the ribbleway from Penowrtham Bridge to Dolphin Pub (6 miles there and 6 back for a good 12 miles). The run is pretty much on tracks and moss so a perfect run when it is too icy for running on the paths/roads. So if it is frozen at the weekend it is a route for people to consider. There is parking at the Dolphin and on Broadgate so it is easy to park up and run from either end.
I know the online entry has closed, but is there any room left for 1 more runner??? I took part last year, so I'm hoping to improve on last years time, and it's also a good training run for Manchester marathon in April.
I emailed the race director and he said he would make a decision tonight and put it out on email/forum/Facebook etc. fingers crossed it can still go ahead as I have been looking forward to this one
Its still on so far but watch this space.Anthony are you local if so a runner has just pulled out if you get a form to me by 6pm tonight with entry fee I will put you in as we wont do on the day entries.
Judging by the fact that Alan said he'd make his decision by Friday evening (i.e. yesterday) and there's no news of cancellation, why not assume it's going ahead!

Hi alan, already booked on for two,i was the daft @%&! who didn't put enough postage, you called and said collect on race day.
No snow but a bit of ice at 8.6miles but will be sorted by morning. For those 320 runners that sent email addresses the message reads race a go go not no no so see you all tomoz. Please give yourself plenty of time to park and get sorted and please listen to the parking stewards.
Alan thanks for organising another great event. Even better than last year and a PB, great goody bag and hot pot. Only tiny comment, loud hailer would have been useful. Thanks again
Thanks for a great race- Marshall were excellent and in plentiful supply. Very friendly and encouraging. Hot pot was well received at end and tasted lovely. No complaints from the St. Helens Striders
Well done Alan & your team!!!... Superb event!!! ...Well organised and very friendly!!!...and possibly the best hot-pot I've ever had!!!! .... Many thanks!!
yeah would just like to echo the above comments, super race, well organised, excellent marshalls and great hotpot, just what was required in the slightly chilly conditions! thanks to alan and team!
Many thanks but there is no committee just 2 people and a lot of great people from wesham road runner who when asked to help they never say no because they are a great bunch. Massive thanks to paul walsh who measured the new course see you all at the elswick express in july cheers Alan T.

Any updates on "weather" the race will go ahead ? Really looking forward to my hotpot.
Anybody know if the race is the race still on?
Brass Monkey and Helsby 4 villages have both been cancelled for safety
Ice forecast for tonight so the journey from Leeds may not be worth risking even if it's still on

email received - all systems go.
How much snow/ice is there on the course, this will affect my choice of footwear
