When I was 7 I stole some money from my Mum. She carted me off to littlehampton police station and with complete cooperation from a PC Gilkes, I was locked in a cell for an entire afternoon, read my rights and so on. Bloody worked.
But that's not answering your question.
I have two children and I'm not sure I could answer this question honestly. I hope I'm never put in that situation.
On the one hand, if it wouldn't warrant a custodial sentence then maybe I would report it. In saying that I'm admitting that I wouldn't shop my children for a serious crime. I think that's a paradox.
There shouldn't be a paradox - as unpalatable as it is, if you know one of your children has committed a serious crime and you don't report it then you are tacitly consenting to them going out and doing whatever they did to someone else.
You are also risking jail yourself and becoming a social pariah by covering up for them.
If you're ok with that - then that's ok. Personally I wouldn't be.
Like I said, not sure I could answer it honestly. I'd be very surprised if, children or not, anyone else could answer that question definitively until it actually happens. I'm happy to be proved wrong of course.

Walking on the Grass. Or littering. That would be my main two.

Voting Conservative.
writing silly nonsense on rw about running with mp3 players.
I don't have any children but my OH is a copper - I don't think I've got much to worry about crime wise...
Nice. Really nice. What a wonderful person you are.

Tough question.
seriously though, i'd be more inclined to tazar my kids a few times before i'd hand them over to the Old Bill.

I'd try to fix it myself, as a parent I could never imagine turning my children in
Depends. They'd probably have to cause serious physical harm to someone that didn't deserve it to any extent and for it to be premeditated.
Real philosophical point where is your duty, to your own Child or the wider community, don't know the answer just know my own.
Blimey.... what haven't the little bug***rs been up to..... erm.... Apostacy? Or simony... obviously
My name's Simon, so I guess I am a little bit simony.

Tough question.
You can always argue that the principle of accusare nemo se debet nisi coram deo extends to your kids? Sort of deny now, pay later?
Indignor quandoque bonus dormitat Homerus as they say!
I agree no one should expect you to betray your own, and I'm a Simpsons fan too
Didn't someone once say that bol***x spouted in latin still sounds profound?
I don't have any kids, so can't really comment.
Perhaps for the child-free folks, the question would be what crime would you shop your spouse/partner for?
Not bothering to make proper gravy with a roast?
Surely this depends whether you live on a large housing estate, in which case shopping them to the police is more likely to make you a social pariah.
I'll second that. Lock 'em up forever!
