Well as per title, i went back for my first swim session last night after having a week and half off due to being away and work and all i can say was it was like swimming through mud.
I cant believe how having over a week off has made such a difference, i am a newbie having only started swimming coulpe of months ago

Don't dispair - look at it the other way around. You must have made loads of progress in 'only a couple of months' to notice such a difference taking only a 10 day break?
Keep at it and you'll soon be swimming like a dolphin again...
maybe your right but i wouldnt class myself being great at swimming
Think i can manage 400m in around 15-20 minutes but can not manage 400m in one go. Usually i swim 2-4 lenghts at a time then have a rest for a bit before continuing.
That happened to me last week, after a weeks holiday I got back in the pool,n o feel for the water no rhythm nothihng, breathing through my bum after 50 metres, this week, up to 6.2km already and finding it a lot easier
Stick at it
As MTH says, if you've only been swimming a couple of months you're going well. Took me a lot longer to get to 400m than that. It does all fall into place one day and you can just keep on going and going.
Maybe being ill is a reaction to swimming, perhaps you're allergic to it?
i think i muist be allergic because i def felt like it was all kinds of wrong last night.
Im going to tr to up my sessions to arouns 4 a week now, dont think 2 or 3 is going to cut it
Have my first tri in open water on may 12th so need to get to that 400m mark soon as there will be no stopping in the middle of a lake
i get some days when i get in the pool and nothing seems to be right.struggle to swim at all......
and then the next time i go in I can have a session where everything seems to fit...
like all things.sonme days are off days and others are magic
why do you want to get tumble turns right..i thoughtr you were interested in triathlon and then they are banned........unless in open water and then they are a tad difficult
in a swim based triathlon there are usually several people in a lane....and so it would be slightly dangerous for people to be doing tumbleturns.....
but in open water there is more room for you to try them if you want
like i said before david..if doing triathlons you need to look at the gym friendly ones that are all inddors.....
if you think that you would be too cold swimming outdoors.then how cold are you going to be after swimming indoors then running outside dripping wet in soaked clothing to then go on a bike into a cold wind........
you would freeze your little bits off......
just find the ones on the treadmill, gymbike and pool..you can be the king of the gym
it would just reflect your true strengths.....
Please tell me the Daily Mail quote was a joke!
Have raced/trained where tumbling is allowed, getting whacked in the face as someone else is flipping over is just not considerate. And with one new one starting off every 15 seconds, you coudl quickly logjam. Elf & safety is a secondary issue, kids get whacked aroudn in teh pool all day long after all. And don't forget, etiquette is that if you get "tickled", you stop at the end for the faster person to overtake anyway so you might as well forget the tumble.
OP, don't worry about one bad day, it happens.
Only ever done one pool tri in 15 years where tumble turns were not allowed. Is this a recent thing as I haven't done many pool tris in the last few years. I organise a race with a 800m pool swim & I have no intention of banning tumble turns.
Oh dear..........I'm having to do slugs tri in breast stroke.....i think I might get in the way of the guys doing tumble turns
well done BS.......it will come
I can only do front crawl in a pool with a pullbuoy as I am such a crap swimmer. i can't hold position and my legs go down causing a massive drag on my swimming...........
I never do pool tris but have made an exception this year as i really want to do this one as its a toughie and local........
but the organisers won't let me use a pullbuoy.........spoilsports......so i will be forced to revert to my old style of old lady breast stroke with an incredibly slow swim time almost as long as your marathon time.
don't kick at all.....then a lot of triathletes don't kick much as the legs are needed for later on.....
definitely would need to work on core and have swimming lesons to try and correst my crap legs posture.but i hate swimming so would not put the amount of work needed to be able to develop a proper stroke......
so i take the easy way and only swim openwater.( apart from this blip)
if we lived closer david.you could teach me to swim and I could teach you to run........sorted
the last triathlon i did the swim was 4.8 miles long....that was way too long for my liking......they can keep the swim as it is thank you
