Not that I'm interested, but that's about 104 laps or so isn't it?
Yes, you've got to be able to put aside the 'ohhh, it is surely boring to run so many laps on a track' syndrome.
Nothing is going to make it exciting. I do not intend to sell it to anyone.
Just come and take part if you want. I may end up alone on the track.
Well count quickly and you can join us in the pub
I'd join in if it was a team event... quarter of a marathon each, say... just to keep you company. How fast do you reckon you can do it?
Hmm, without killing myself, I'd say the usual 3h30 mark.
You can certainly make it a team event. Anything is possible. The key aspect is to run the exact distance on a track in a good condition.
Put me down for one lap
At marathon pace, Scream?
Hiya,
I don't know if anyone is interested but if they wanted the marathon to 'count' there's this race being run by Enigma Running:
MK Enigma Track Marathon / 6 Hour Ultra: November 23rd 2013
http://www.enigmarunning.co.uk/
Are you hiring the track? or wioll there be other users there - also have you considred using the sri chimnoy mile loop as an alternative?
Naturally
At the risk of asking a stupid question, is running on a track, in the same direction, for three hours not going to result in an injury, or at the very least real discomfort in the ankles/knees?
I would have thought that the constant lean to the left (assuming going anti-clockwise) would be the same as running on a cambered surface and therefore potentially result in ankle/knee problems?
I am not hiring the track. There will be other users. I do not want to use the sri chinmoy loop because it is not on a track.
Running on a track in the same direction for a few hours does not cause injury. I ran the Crawley 12 hour last year, and we changed direction only after 6 hours. I did not feel the need for a change, but it was imposed by the RD.
I have already signed up for the 6 hour version of the MK Enigma Track Marathon / 6 Hour Ultra, but I want to run long distance more often on track hence my proposal.
Pudge - yes it can irritate underlying injuries. My previously resolved ITBS on my left leg came back strong after a long track session. Similar effect as a cambered road - it will affect some people, others not at all
I am just wondering what the point of this would be. Why would I want to strain myself running a marathon when there is no official timing or there is no clear goal in sight e.g. will this be a Guiness book record attempt, will the money go for a fantastic cause etc.?
I am going to ask another question. - Given the pace you are likely to be running which is quite slow, track etiquette suggest you need to be running in the outer lanes out of the way of the faster runners training on the track - Having trained at Battersea in the past some of the guys there are quite quick, you are going to need to respect other users. It won't be enough to say well I have paid my money and I am going to run in the inside lane you are going to be in the way.
How then will you keep tally of distance run,
This event is non-compliant with both my left ITB and my sanity. And yet I think Grendel may have the most salient point!
(And my lap counting skills, but let's not talk about that!)
Why not run around the main Battersea Park loop, starting and finishing on the track?
🙂
May I suggest using the track at Barn Elms http://www.runtrackdir.com/details.asp?track=barn%20elms during a daytime. You might be sharing it with a school, who usually use only the inside few lanes, for an hour or so, but more likely with a bunch of Canada geese from the nearby Wetlands. Much quieter.
FXF, you post in quite a serious style...i guess it takes that kind of mentality to undertake such a bonkers mission!
I was having a chat with a club mate yesterday about another guy in the club who does ultras and such like. When asked whether a 24-hour race on a running track gets a little boring, apparently he said "Well, you do get to change directions every four hours."
If you're worried about not being able to run in the inside lane, do the whole thing in Lane 8. Only 92 laps, and the turn isn't so tight so PP's ITB might be OK.
I'm not familiar with the course - is it hilly?
How far is it?
