I'm relatively new to the running game and improving massively as each race goes by. That's the best sense of achievement. I dare dream of thinking about elite level yet but hey? One day maybe?
Just for the record I'm 5th in my postcode area and well chuffed with that
WIll have a look - although in my area I am pretty sure that I am the fastest in my postcode area (unless it is 9 o'clock when I am likely to be knocked down in the rush to get to the chemist when he dishes out the daily supply of methadone!!!)
Actually, cancel that. My dog runs rings round me when I'm trying to go as fast as I can, so I can't even claim to be the fastest in my house.
Reminds me of the classic Ashes sledging when Mark Waugh told an incoming tailender that he wasn't good enough to play for England, to which the reply was "well at least I'm the best cricketer in my family."
I pick a time improvement to aim for so i am battling myself. I also try to pick off faster runners as i go- but i'll be lucky to break 20 mins for 5k snd can only dresm of a sub 40 10k, but dream I do! but if i do s sub 40, i'd aim for a sub 1:30 HM as i know i'm not fast, but I do try
I think matt trolladitch will be happy with her/his/its work here.
It's funny how these things work. I've broken 20 mins a good few times at parkrun; can't get close to 40 on 10k (haven't even broken 42); but was 28 seconds outside a 90-minute half marathon last year. Mind you, my 5k times this year suggest age is finally catching up with me.
. Some guy in sixth form is 50 seconds off the 5000m world record, and athletics people come into the school assembly saying he's a future Olympic hopeful.
But when I'm 30 seconds off the 100m world record at sports day, everyone laughs and calls me a 'fat shit'
I'm thinking of inviting myself over there to check up on his progress - and it's nothing to do with the fact that I bet his house has got great air conditioning

That's the modern way, "aim for the top and you'll succeed".
Succeed at discovering you're deficient more likely.
🙂

Concentrate on correct training and improved results in races will just happen as a matter of course.
🙂
How can you check where you are in a post code area?
Steven - I am not sure that the thread turned out quite the way matt trolladitch intended - has given everyone a bit of fun!!!
Grendel3- its a new stat on runbritain.

I want to know who the faster M45 is.
No world record attempt yet by Matt ?
I've been on holiday, so need to catch up.
Sadly not - it seemed so darned close too
Scream: Perhaps he's waiting for the race with the right pacemakers and weather conditions.

That is SO unfair Grendel
WE all belived in you, WE never laughed (much) just go for it and damn them all!
Grendel: We didn't want to give you any false expectations of what we believed you could do, sorry mate.
Any more 'news' from Matt ?
Any more hints at potential greatness ?
Perhaps he challenged his dad to a race and the "old man" beat him?
Scream: His dad must be some runner then !
So I am told (by an anonymous source) his dad has a carbon fibre Zimmer frame (aero section) very fleet of foot apparently....
But his knees were mashed -
Yeah, but despite these things mentioned above I wonder what his dad could do off a little training ?
If Matt takes his 'athletics genes' from him of course.
I'm thinking of inviting myself over there to check up on his progress - and it's nothing to do with the fact that I bet his house has got great air conditioning
Scream: Will you ask him to go for an easy run ?
I will be by the pool, drinking a daiquri, telling him to knock himself out on the track and report back
ScreaM: Yeah but ask for evidence of his sessions
I may send him out wearing a head cam...
