On my morning run, I cross a road which once in a while has a gardener about to get his machines going. It used to be just before 7:00am, but he surpassed himself by getting fired up at 5:45am.
There are time limits (I think) when drivers can't sound their horn, the emergency services their sirens and (again I think) Ice Cream vans can't play greensleeves. there must be something similar I would have thought - (either that or all of this post is cr*p)
My friend had a tirade from her neighbour for starting at 10am on a weekend. My XH thought this was perfectly reasonable and no-one should start before lunchtime. My neighbour then started up at 8am Everyone has different ideas of civilised. I can never understand the "sleep in at the weekend" mentality, I wake up at 6am every weekday how am I supposed to reset my body clock for the next two days? Why bother?
Thought this was going to be a topical thread as I am plagued at the moment at work with farmers wanting to cut their meadows a week early (I don't let them do it til the 15th) they are all nervous because last year was so rubbish with rain they want to cut now while it's sunny.
really topical as the neighbourers roofers started at 7:30 am this morning........doesn't bother me really..My teeneage son who sleeps in the attic is more pissed off.........
I expect my neighbour is a s well as they are retired and she normally stays in bed until about 10 and stays up late......
but like most things it will only be for about a week..........so i wouldn't dream of complaining
I thought about this thread this morning as I ran passed Clacton Golf Course, just after 5:30, there was the green keeper on his ride on mower happily chugging away - thinking along those lines, this is the same club that last year when we had a hosepipe ban was quite happily spraying gallons of water around to keep the local golfers happy.

I think in built up areas your right there ric
I can't imagine in rural areas that wouldn't be a problem.
isnt it a bit like the Bon fire rule? Or the DIY one?

Can't help you, but now have "one man went to mow" stuck in my head!
I know its 9 pm at night......not sure about the morning
but just like Joolska i now havce one man went to mow in my head...
9:00pm! Nope! I've heard them blasting away at that time when coming off a golf course.
Mainly interested in what would be considered a civilised start /finish time for this activity.
🙂

M4m,
I see plenty of fields round my way (NW London) have just been cut. I assumed farmers just cut the meadows when they feel the moments right.
🙂
Not laws so much as byelaws I think. It might vary from council to council but you can usually find the rules somewhere on council websites.

Noise Pollution act
Basically during night hours, 11pm to 7am, it is anoffence for a 'household' to produce noise of over 24 decibels.
There are separate laws coving certain other aspects (house alarms, dogs etc)
Go nuts here... http://www.doeni.gov.uk/guidance_on_the_noise_act_1996.pdf

The grass is usually too damp to cut that early in the morning anyway.
Would you agree that 9:15am Monday to Saturday and Sunday 10:30am should be minimum start time for garden machinery?
Complete ceassation if barbecues are in action?
🙂
would you agree no BBQ's to be lit ever before 7pm at night so that washing hanging out doesn't get tainted with the smoke and BBQ smell
With you on that one
So you are confined to eating your BBQ at 8 o'clock at night ?
Get a tumble drier
Wastes too much electricity.
What the bbq ?
One of my neighbours appears to live on BBQ's.
Always smells like he's cooking plastic bags.
🙂
They do, unless I'm paying them £275 a hectare to wait til July 15th!
