How about we exclude:
1) Anyone between the ages of 45-55 ( on the basis that they are having a mid life crisis)
2) Anyone overweight
3) Anyone who is predicted to finish above 12hrs (24hrs for DIM and so on)
4) Anyone who is rich and can afford bling bikes and coaching
5) Anyone with an ego and only wants to finish to brag
Only my opinion of course .......
Comments
Sorry but on that basis......
Well that's the end of Ironman then-wouldn't be financially viable...would it?
I'd restrict it to people who want to do it. Seems fair.
Whats the point of long distance, endurance or ultra races if not to inspire those people who may not be the fittest, slimmest, healthiest but who can't back down from a challenge either external or internal?
Personally, I think that its a good thing and if people are prepared to pay money to achieve what they may at one point think is impossible, then good on them! For some people just finishing is the greatest achievement of their lives and I don't think they should be stopped just because they do a bit of bragging afterwards.
If you want to do it, can do it and have money to do it, then you should be able to do it. Just my opinion of course
I would also ban people with a colour fixation
Did KittenKat hack your account? (sorry, that was catty? saucer of milk please)
I've got a red bike, does that offset any of your rules?
I love the irony (or should that be iron-man-y) of your post. I know that you aren't being serious...
I've been reading Chrissie Wellington's book and she point's out that although she could get round an Ironman she was comparatively crap at the shorter events.........so it's not just people on here.
I think we should have a competition to see how many of those criteria we fit. I'm only 3 out of 5!! Doh....must try harder
I'm merely fat and slow...
A bloke down the pool says I need to swim faster, does that count as coaching?
2 out of 5 is great , I am also old, and what about those with an early mid-life crisis? Are we good after 55 or just irrelevant
I propose that we exclude anybody faster than me. Insufficient smoke is being blown up my flabby arse by simply completing races. I'd appreciate my ego being inflated significantly more by winning. It'd limit the field, I know, but it'd be a small price to pay for removing the manifold chips from my slopey shoulders.
Did someone mention chips??
What if we ban anyone who can't down a pint in less than 10 seconds?
Oh look, a witch.
For the purposes of this exercise, are you old and slow, or just slow?
I score 3/5, maybe 4/5 of you can define rich and bling bikes, does a £1100 Bianchi count? Oh and I have swimming lessons, does that count as coaching?
Hang on, I've fallen for the WUM haven';t I?
Excellent, I'm also out, should save a few pennies.
Mouse - I'd go with old too, you just need to hope she's not just slow, but slower than you methinks
errrm - I'm not so sure of that
in her 1st year of serious tri in 2006 she qualified for the World a/g champs in Lausanne and won by 7mins in 2:17 - over standard distance that is a huge margin. Petal was racing there as well so I saw how Chrissie destroyed the field....
anyhoo - based on the 5 criteria, I pass on one (sub-12 IM) but even that was a few years ago now....
'She' is here you know !!!
She's the cats mother you know.
I like that rule
In my humble experience, overweight does not necessarily mean unfit. For example, I'm approximately 2 or so stone overweight and I have successfully completed 2 half marathons reasonably comfortably. Not bad for a fat bird, eh???
Now, if I was to train for a full marathon or a triathlon, specifically Ironman, which I have no wish to ever subject myself to, then I admit that I would likely lose that 2 stone.
However, given that I am a bit fat, I was far fitter than many skinny minnies doing the same races as me and who I ran past as they were walking.
Food for thought......... (no pun inteded)..........heheheehehe
Not serious comment on my part FB, although she did have her eye on Beijing at one point she says it was unrealistic. She did ok though.
4/5 for me, 5/5 if anything better than a Raleigh roadster counts as bling.
I'd ban anyone wearing armwarmers or one of those poncy cooling shrugs (especially at the same time)
Men should only be allowed to race if sporting a 'nice mustache' or 'nice beard.' Those with interesting sideburns would be allowed to enter, but not be eligible for prizes.
You've discovered the secret of Funkins success then Crashie?
But I believe if you check here at 30:48

You'll see a certain Mr F with armwarmers!! Best forget those tickets to Kona Mrs F, as Mr F is now officially banned
Damn, it was within his grasp, then cruelly snatched away...
What about a hat/ This could clinch it one way or the other.
Well I didn't want to do one anyway!
Fib's Wilkie go on go on go on go on go on?
