Max's mum - i'm not sure.... I think they are opening it up for the initial testing at the moment (unless you have more info).
Cinders: Jantastic is a motivational month of running from MarathonTalk (running podcast). They run it for 3 months to motivate people to train for their spring marathon with different tasks. Setting up how many times you want to run every week, then the length of your LSR, then a timed trial in March. At the end there are prizes to win.
I used it in my first year of training to set myself goals and found it really useful. I think some of the pirates have their own team.
I have entered, apart from the new site it looks the same as last year.
It got me motivated but there seemed to be a lot of dubious reporting last year and a lot of people using a 5k as their longest run and making it a bit easier to get close to their time.
I dont really get the point. If youre just making up your own goals why do you need a whole website to do that? Just scribble it on a piece of paper, stick it on your fridge, job done.
Millsy - like you say it relies a bit on honestly. Last year, at the start of each week some people were filling in their allotted number of runs implying they'd done their 5 (or whatever) runs that week, whereas you're meant to fill them in as and when you do a run. Personally, I just used it for a bit of extra motivation and enjoyed it and I've registered for this one as well.
I think one minor difference is that in the final four week block, you can set your "flat-out" target effort at any time during that month, whereas this year you had to set it before the month started.
Is there scope for a Runner's World team, I wonder?
I kind of put these sort of things alongside personal trainers. PT's are just expensive babysitters to me and if you need one, then you probably arent motivated enough away so you probably shouldnt bother trying.
Ah well, don't blame me, I didnt make up the website, just thought there may be a couple of people interested! Just a bit of fun as far as I'm concerned!
Sorry i didnt reply Cinders i had gone to bed! but i see Emmy has given an explanation. Emmy, it seems its up and running, loads of people have signed up so far i think.
Maxs Mum - me too. There were a couple of sessions where I may have shirked out of going if it wasn't for Jantastic. Also, the community aspect of Marathon Talk is a big part of the show, and Jantastic is another part of that.
Max's mum - you're right. I'm one of the supertesters and they said that they were releasing it first to us to test and that only came through yesterday so i wasnt sure.
Does this mean that one of us should create a RW team?
I really enjoyed Jantastic and it was a little bit of banter and good fun. It did motivate me ... but then again -so does the print out on the wall. If it floats your boat - all the better!
I'm signed up, first time I have tried it. I have miles to build up after Christmas so it might help me get out of the door on those cold dark evenings.
I've signed up again. It's just a bit of fun and a little extra incentive. You are supposed to make it tough - I normally only run 4 x a week so have signed up for 6 (training plan calls for 6 anyway!).

That's Jantastic. Thanks for the thoroughness of your post.

Emmy - MT posted it on Facebook yesterday that it's now open. It's on its own site this year as well

I agree that the pen and paper idea is just as good.

I thought it was a brilliant idea to start with last year until I started to see some of the results coming through.
well i think if people are fudging the results they are only cheating themselves
I just used it as extra incentive last year!

Thanks for pointing this out. I've signed up and can only see it as a positive thing as I train for my first mara!

I have just signed up, 5 runs a week in January!

Signed up too!
There is also a monthly mileage challenge which sees RW take on Fetchies!
