Wow SumoSue. Hope next year brings you all you want.
Winter 13/14: XC league Feb: Wokingham HM Mar: Ballbuster Apr: Maybe a std distance du or a 10km race followed by long hard bike May: PowermanUK Summer: Off season. Fun biking, easy running. Sep: London Du. Distance TBC Oct: Althorp Du. Winter 14/15 league XC.
Loads of TTing throughout - 10mi, 25mi maybe a 50mi.
I know I'm a grump but I do sometimes wonder about the logic for some of these race plans. So I can see the logic of the DIY Half pre Lanza and the Eiras half pre Wales, for example but I can't always see the logic of jumbling up marathons, half marathons, sprint, oly, half and full IM distance triathlons in no particular structure or order. So, I was wondering, for those who have very full seasons of varied distances events, is there a method to your madness, or are simply having a little bit of what you fancy?

You a grump ?
No marathons, But 3 halves, all of which form part of our club championship, as does the sprint I have included.
I find that I need something to perk me up during training, and doing a race gives me a lift.
Mouse for me it’s a bit of both some of the races looking at next year is for training for my A race of eirman. Would be doing the DIY as well but that weekends my wedding anniversary so taking Sarah somewhere nice. A couple of those races for me are more social then serious if I’m being honest with myself just to meet folks and mix it up, Plus a couple of races Sarah wants to do so as will be there anyway would be rude not to. For the marathons on my part I’m not chasing pb’s done that in the past and while was rewarding wouldn’t want to live like that all the time. So just counting up marathon’s till can get a 100 club t-shirt and challenging myself in term’s of mental strength.
Only real race planning on doing next year that doesn’t fit with anything else is Buxton half. Do that one ever year because for a half its exceptionally hard and good in terms of challenging yourself.
Me makes it 4 - I have friends who are "just" runners who I support and other triathletes who don't do the long stuff. Plus it adds good variety to training and competition - I get hammered in the runs and short stuff - although come to think of it, I get hammered in the long stuff as well
I've just realised I had forgotten to include a lovely little race the other day will hopefully be running and definantly be doing some form of marshalling at next year if anyone fancies it. Giantshead It's going to be epic.
I tend to choose my races like a fat kid in a sweet shop chooses sweets, a bit of everything. I seem tot be prone to a little bit of drunken event entry and don't realise how full my year is, or how haphazard I've been with my race choices, until I take stock with threads such as this.
Being definetly at the blunt end of the race, I don't really feel it affects my racing too much, as I'm more of a "in it to complete" type of "athlete" at the moment
I am the same as cake et al! I don't particularly 'race' most of the events I enter, but they keep me training and are social. When I go for a full IM then I probably won't enter so many of the smaller events as they will mean less time for long rides etc
Annoyingly everything from June might get scrapped due to work but thats the plan for now. If it goes to plan IML is a complete and Outlaw will be a best effort (improve on last year, definitely not threatening the top of the field by a bloody long shout).
is nobody planning to do any race that has beach swim, preferably in warm climate? and I mean excluding IronMan distances (Lanzarote does not count!)
So far I checked triatlon Villa de Rota in Cadiz and Garmin Barcelona, both in Spain and with cheap flights from London (see links below) but would love any suggestions/recommendations!
Jeezo i feel exhausted just reading some of those lists Here's mine:
19th Jan: Stubbington Green10K
9th Feb: Longleat 10K
23rd Feb: Hampton Court Half Marathon
12th-13th April: DIY Half IM - supporting only!
27th April: Big Sur marathon in California (my A race)
28th June: Sydling Hill Race 10K (which is 11ishK I believe!)
30th Aug: The Vitruvian Half IM.
I might try to fit in a couple of sprint tris between June and August so I can actually remember what it is like to do a tri, seeing as i'm doing the Vit!!
I may do a sprint tri somewhere in the summer but right now I have no plans to do one. That's my schedule. Oh, and a parkrun most Saturdays in between (some easy, some hard, some fast, some slow).
