A lot of folks complain about the swimtime in the pool being boring:

I bought one of these over a year ago and love it!
Not the cheapest waterproof MP3 but I have had a couple of others that have been a little shonky!
Works with itunes (if you are that way inclined!) and so far has proven impeccable.
So come on - what wouldn't you be without?

ps. TopTip - don't try and swim 2 miles on the Prodigy . . . knackered in about 20 lengths!!!

Doh - that was meant to be a link . . . boobed . . hopefully you can work it out?
If you find swimming boring, i'm guessing you are not doing it properly. As the most techincal aspect of what we are doing it requires you focus and concentrate on what you are doing. If you are just pounding out the lengths then why bother. Just make sure you can do the distance every couple of weeks and focus on the other disciplines. If your not planning on winning, don't waste time on the stuff you don't enjoy.
Please dont take this as a grumpy post.

Cat's reply, whilst laconic, does allude to the fact it's easy to focus on the big ticket items. Whilst these are obviously essential, there are some little things that make life a lot easier! This is a pretty good article along a similar theme.
For me it's probably been the massage stick I bought a couple of years ago. Travelling with work, it fits in my overnight case and lets me work on my "known problem areas" to stay on top of issues.
Having just acquired a bath, I'm beginning to see what a great luxury that is... I've always been a shower person, but I'm definitely seeing the advantage of a long soak when I'm tight!
Dave, Dave, Dave ...
Sorry....
I was being serious, I have been using at as a wetsuit lube ever since I started, it even gets several mentions in Holg's book..
The great advantage is I get it for free from my local sexual health clinic, and as I am a married man, it's not as if I would require it for any other purpose.
Brought a swimmy Mp3 player hardly ever use it
I do like my Garmin Forerunner 10 though gives me time run / pace and distance dont need any other bells n whistles i am finding it very useful
Vaseline.....ahem

Don't get me wrong - I love swimming and it's swimming that has drawn me into this crazy world - I started doing open water swims and then some relay tri's - then got annoyed by being let down by flakey runners and bikers , , .
But I do find that having the music helps me relax into the swim and not get quite so annoyed when a lane hogger doesn't let me pass. . .
WTF?????
Oh that's just wrong on many levels . . .
Garmin 405 watch, such an ego buster for training and nice to actually see how you did in a race with all the graphs and mapping. It is easy to use and despite failing once or twice has been a good companion. The weakness is that when it failed I realised how needy I had become with pacing and timing information.
My poolmate lap counting watch, it functions also as a regular watch and alarm clock. Can be set for different size pools, I have mine set on 50m, and it keeps a record of your workouts. Bought from Wiggle Germany. Stops me losing track whether I've completed my long swims or not!
Garmin 910xt - ridiculously expensive but best investment I made this year
