Not used to high temps being in the north of the country. D33 ultra again this weekend. Last year didn't bother with a jacket although it was a little overcast, within two miles it was raining and by 10 miles it was snowing. Magic.
I've dropped a few hints re the weather Happychap but nothing formal yet.
Welcome ChaneyBee. It'll be great
Training is starting to get serious, which is a novelty for me! Will be better when I get rid of an annoyingly persistent calf niggle and can start running properly again.
They've been quite specific hints; for race day - no wind, a little light cloud cover, temp low 20s, low humidity; in the run-up - rain & low temps for a couple of weeks prior to 23/6 to keep water temps down, then warming up gradually in the final week.
Had some fun at lunchtime looking through the times from last year. I started at the back where I expected to find more kindred spirits. Page after page of DNFs and DNSs, some with excellent times before the marathon, one 50m swim and 5hr bike but still DNF. One finisher with a 7hr bike and 7hr run, sounds much more like me . One poor sod had a nearly 9hr marathon. Ouch!
9hr marathon is extreme! I walked the whole of the Outlaw marathon in about 7hrs a couple of years ago. Hope to do a bit better than that in Austria.
However, I anticipate moving steadily down the field as the day goes on. Moderately respectable 1:20 swim: then I'll get passed by nearly everyone who comes out of the water behind me for a 7- 7:30 bike; anyone who doesn't pass me on the bike probably will on the 'run'!
Well you'll be out of the water 10 minutes faster than me but the bikes a big unknown as I'm not really a cyclist and at this point have never been over 56 miles (gulp!) however I've got two 200k audaxes in April and May so that should be revealing. Pencilling in 5.30 for the marathon but who knows.
Cycling is my weakness too, my power to weight ratio is absoltely crap so put any incline in front of me and my speed goes from reasonable to dead slow. I've done the distance before so know I can do it, just need to get enough miles in over the next 14.5 weeks (eek!) to be able to do it a bit quicker than usual and without trashing my legs.
I'm training in the flatlands of Suffolk. The wind yesterday provided a good test and after 66 miles I was completely knackered.
I used to think I was good at biking but IMA and my hope of improving on times set in Florida (2011) and Outlaw (2012) is becoming and increasingly daunting prospect.
I think there might be wibbles in the air this week. I've been panicking at the lack of training over the last few weeks and the realisation there is just 14 weeks to go.
But, at the same time, 14 weeks is still enough to turn stuff around so fingers crossed.
Hey Trogs - foot still in bad shape. The upside is it hasn't stopped me from cycling. Having withdrawn from VLM, it might help me get my cycling legs back a bit quicker.
Annoyingly physio non-committal with diagnosis and therefore treatment, so it's somewhat of a fingers-crossed kinda situation.
Comments
I think there have been non-wetsuit years but most IM event directors will do their utmost not to ban wetsuits.
As for weather, looks like mid-high 20s but who knows? I'd prefer it not to be too hot but but I think humidity is more of a factor for me.
Who knows, we may get some decent weather here to get acclimatised
Mid high 20's would be perfect. Have you booked the weather Trogs? Or shall I send a memo upstairs?

How far North Farm Boy?
Hi ChaneyBee, welcome. Training is coming along nicely thank you Which in itself is a novelty.
Trogs, get that memo up now. If we're relying on hints it'll be 35 degrees and a none wetsuit swim.

Hope that suits everyone
Aberdeenshire Happychap.
Sounds perfect Trogs. Not unlike the weather we had at IMCH actually
That is *quite* far north Farm Boy.
Everybody taking TT bikes? I understand its de rigeur for Austria? I'll be taking my road bike.
Road bike for me and Toucs too.
I don't own a TT bike
Tempting though it may be to take the Tricross with it's triple but I suspect it'll be road bike for me too

I'm not wibbling - but I may be quite close to denial
14 weeks? Yikes!!!!
Approximately 2,317 hours (96 days) or roughly the same amount of time it'll take some of us to cover the 140.6 miles.
Hi Robbie, how's the foot?
Can't make up my mind which sounds best; 14 weeks, 96 days or 2317 hours
96 days definitely sounds worst. That caused me to clench my ass cheeks.
