It's a brilliant first trail marathon. It was my first marathon last year and I've already signed up for this years event - £25 is a bargain! Gorgeous views, well organised and lots of friendly runners. I picked an injury around 10/11km from the end so had a bit of a nightmare but up to that point I loved it! Revenge will be mine
Only 8 weeks to go. How's your training going? I am following the plan on cool running, did 20 miles over the purbecks on Sunday. Feeling good right now.
Frogbmth - You've picked a fantastic event for your first marathon. Quite tough in places if you're not ready for it. Obviously with 20 miles over the purbecks already under your belt you'll be OK. Just stick to your training plan and watch out for the wildlife.
Me and my other half are doing this (his first marathon, my second) and we are really looking forward to it as we live on Salisbury Plain and it'll be nice to see a bit more of it.
Just a question for those who have done this before....what happens with bag storage? Is there bag storage? We are getting the bus down to Avebury from Stonehenge.
I am hoping it is sign posted cos I am no good at map reading! I nearly got lost at 54321 last year on the way back through town so if I can't navigate in a city centre I have no hope on the trails.
I did the full walk a few years ago, no map reading was required then. As I recall the first half has a few steepish up & downs but it levels out 2nd half. I'm wondering whether I'm up for the Half this year, decisions, decisions...
Hello all! I'm also doing the marathon this coming Sunday, and cannot wait. First one ever.
Do any of the old hands remember what the terrain is like? I'm wavering between road shoes, or light trail shoes. I don't mind a bit of mud on the way, but hate having to go over miles of tarmac on trail shoes.
Seb - My first time at the Neolithic but not my first mara, I've read somewhere if it's dry, which it should be unless the forecasters gets it wrong again, road shoes are fine.
Great stuff Seb, did my last 2 mile run last night and excited about the big day! it still looks like it is going to stay dry. This is what I look like so if you spot me say hi
How easy or difficult do you think it would be with no signage... For example, if I wanted to do it, in whole or in part, as a training run?
When I did it last year there were army patrol vehicles doing their patrols during the race. Not sure I would have liked to have been out there by myself explaining to a patrol why im running around a live firing range
There's a map of this years' route on the Wiltshire wildlife website or you could load the route onto a compatible garmin or phone app and follow that as far as you can?

Does the app warn you when you are running on a part of the course that may or may not have live fire and/or tanks rolling past you??
Having said that the bit around Amesbury is doable and the big hill that you have to climb near the start is worth it, if only for the view at the top.

I was looking at this one too. I'm tempted by the marathon.
£25 early bird entry at the moment including the free shuttle bus, not bad value. Planning to park at Stonehenge and get the bus to the start.
thanks - i'll make my mind up soon then!

It's a lovely event and great organization.

Thank you.
Yes, they will take your bag from Avebury to Stonehenge.
Hi,
Really tempted to sign up for this one!
Can anyone please tell me if it involves much navigation/map reading or is it signed/marked?
Thanks

Have fun!
Thank you guys and good luck!

Last long run tomorrow for me. Getting real excited now!
Got my pack through the post today, only a week to go!
I think this event looks great... I'm defo gonna do the marathon next year...
See you there next weekend, Stratford HM tomorrow as a warm up.

Thanks so much - and see you all at the start!

Thanks Barry - that's was I was hoping for. I'm going out for my final 20 mins easy now - and feeling ready for the big one tomorrow. S.
I did this Mara in road shoes last year and it was fine.
Good luck everyone! Enjoy the day.
Thanks Jindalee!

Cheers Frogbmth - I sent you a Garmin connect with mugshot! I'll look out for you. And thanks to all for commenting on shoes.

The live firing range could pose an issue!
