The key is the steepest you can ride without crossing a power threshold. 18% or whatever on Pebble Hill will probably burn the legs out too quickly. Rate of vertical ascent (VAM) is a Prof. Ferrari concept but the best you're gonna get if you're Lance Armstrong is circa. 1800 for a single climb. I did 8 reps of Box Hill the other week and averaged a shade under 1000. That's unsustainable for many more reps. Even if you hold 800 (which I'd wager an almighty task), then you're looking at 11 hours of "up" plus a few hours of "down".

I must admit, if it was me I'd go and try the Leith Hill octopus, or some sort of Box Hill-Ranmore-Pabble Hill circuit rather than just up and down the same one. Although I suppose you do get most bangs for your buck that way.
I do have a hankering to do the 9 Olympic laps at some point.

I know it, I rode it the other week, it was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be! Not that I thought it was going to be easy. I saw the sign at the bottom, would it not mean the top is at 512m of altitude?

My ride into today was 21 miles with 374ft of elevation....i'm tempted to go and cycle up and down the Westferry underpass just to find some "climbing"...even if it is 15ft or so.
But now I'm confused as to whether it's 512m or 432m. There is a sign at the bottom and top with a picture of a bike that says 512m over 6km.
That's probably about the perfect hill for a "proper" Everesting. Steep enough to keep it realistically short. Steady enough to get a rhythm. Pingu at the bottom bringing you cups of tea...
We had the debate about the perfect hill - whether you want something steep to minimise the amount of energy going forwards as well as up or whether something more gentle would be better given your legs are going to be in bits after a while. I suppose the best way would be have a look at the hills on the table of completed everests and see if there is a pattern there with some types of hill making for faster rides. Logically I suppose a really steep hill with a really easy gearing might be best though I don't think I could face riding at about 5mph for hours on end punctuated by the descents.

I couldn't possibly comment.
Your doing that a lot at the moment.
My garmin doesn't either Seren, I just know those numbers from a sportive I did and couple of rides with mates that do.
I've got a hill on my doorstep, 6km, 512m. Did it twice last week, will be doing it a few more times now to bump up my numbers here!
I might have to come visit!!

Probably, which means I've cheated , will adjust figures when not on laptop.
Are you local then Rocco? There's also Iron mountain and Gospel Path not far, they're both over 400m climbs.

eeek - I was born and bred in Cwmbran. left to go to Uni and never went back but still have some (non-immediate) family ties with the place.
Pops, you've just described the experience of several people on this forum during their first IM bike leg.
So what does this sign mean ... 512m climb, or the top is at 512m
