I really don't think the Hayter Cup will be up for this event, the agreement we have is that whoever is out of the swim first (Mrs SA) will wait for the other one (me) we will then do the bike together, or as near to each other as is legally allowed, then do the run together
This is where all the action is, and you'll get to enjoy the build up in the days prior to the race. It's also where T1 and T2 is, so convenient for racking the day before.
Plus you won't have too far to stagger back to your digs once you've finished racing/celebrating afterwards
The only time you need to go to Club La Santa is to register. It's a great facility for sports etc, but there is nothing else up there. Literally nothing, no town, no shops, no bars.....
Slim, you will love this race, we are hoping to get over for the weekend to shout abuse, loved it this year, but like you, next year I'm taking a break from going long
Pirate central in 2013 was the Club Oceano apartments with Ocean Club Holidays. Very geared towards triathlon and pirates have been there before. Close to race HQ. A little bar that did food. Nice and quiet. Most important to us was that they allowed us to check out late so no sitting around for hours.
Ok, after looking at the Lanza site, there are still places for this.
just wondering, does this normally sell out? If so, when?
after a diabolical performance at Vitruvian, my 1st Him, i'd given up on IM, being somewhat deflated, but reading IM Wales RR's last weekend has piqued my interest again.
Considering I'm shyte at both hills and heat, I thought where better to pop my cherry than Lanza. Plus, I have to make good on becoming a Pirate.
Wife's given the go ahead, so just finding the sheckles now.
I withdrew from this yesterday. It was playing second fiddle to my main goal for next year, which is UTLD 100 in July. The more I've been building in ultras as training runs leading up to it, the more I've realised that any training for Lanza would suffer.
At first I was happy to try and wing it in Lanza and treat it as a nice day out, but I'm now coming to the conclusion that I'd be unhappy with myself if I didn't do it justice. Plus, it's a long way to go just for a half-hearted attempt at something.
Anyway, for those of you that haven't done it before, you will love it! Hope you all have a great race, and it goes without saying that you should try not to be shit etc....
Slim - I'm learning from past mistakes... this year had a few 15/16 hr peak weeks. mainly dropped into 10-14hrs. Long run/Long bike and half weekss training done. Where you staying?
Turning it into a family holiday so staying at Oceana Apartments as they seem to have been recommended by all at Pirate Central!
I had to decide whether to have most of the week's holiday before or after the Ironman. Decided to have after as I wouldn't enjoy it much waiting for the event as I always suffer from nerves. It does mean though that we fly out on the thursday with the race on the saturday....not much chance for acclimatisation!
yep same here, we get there Thursday. Staying at Los jameos in pdc. I did same for mallorca this yr, got there thurs and had the Hol after. Good way of doing it have to meet up when we're there mate
I will also be going this year, not sure if I will be in the best condition for it but this one will be about the finish not about the time so should be ok. Have people booked flights and accomodation yet? See you there.
My first I M and only 4th triathlon. In Spain racking up big bike miles and lots of good long steep climbs. Any advice welcome. Practical stuff etc I m not hot on the practical stuff. And I don t like cycling downhill very fast which concerns me with this course!
Just back from a quick 4 days in lanza. First time there and managed to hire a bike for a day and get a 60 miler in on the first part of the Ironman course. Had a quick look at Club La Santa and didn't much like it to be honest
Swim course looks good and the run nice and flat. But I know it is the heat and wind which will be the killer. It was blowy out on the bike and I have come back determined to get more bike training in!
Sampled the wares of Route 66- just to get an idea of how a post race party might feel!

Aaaaah, okay. When is the official smackdown then?
i do believe that club la Santa run free bus service to and from the event though
Agree with Q about staying in Puerto del Carmen.

Just dropping in to say greetings all. I've just entered Lanza after having a break from IM this year.
I'm 50 in January and so wanted to do something a bit special next year
Looking forward to keeping in touch and motivating each other through the winter!

Pudge...gutted you're not going mate. Sounds like you have made the right decision for you though. Best of luck in the lakes????????
slimshady - just started properly training again about 2 weeks ago. Trying to get back up to a consistent 12hrs a week.
Pudge - sorry you're not going but it does sound as though you've made the right decision.
BluePeter - 12 hours!! I think I might hit this number of hours in peak training but nowhere near most of the time
probably explains why I'm shite

Definitely meet up..sounds good
I think the turbo is going to be my friend this winter. Just put mudguards on the winter bike in case I get brave!

Yeah..all booked up - flying out from Luton on the thursday with Monarch -
Had a very hard bike today with a local group with a double puncture after hitting a pothole
I certainly need to work on my bike

Had it confirmed this weekend that we will indeed be in Lanza for the event but only supporting this time.
FANTASTIC!!!
This is brilliant news mate!
Great news Q!!
