As shallow (and tragic!) as this might sound, I do love an unusual finisher medal, if for no other reason than I like to decorate my banisters with them. Which events have given you the best ones? 10k/half marathons are as far as I go!
That's your point of view - I am an ex-competitive athlete where I have competed for medals at international level. Now I'm old and slow, mass participation events is where it's at for me and I like them as souvenirs.
My favourites include the Eden Project Marathon and the Indian Queens Half Marathon ... the latter can be seen at the front down below, round the neck of my alter ego.
Walt Disney World's Marathon weekend do some interesting medals. Chunky, clunky and highly Disneyfied, if that's your kind of thing (...that's my kind of thing).
RunThrough seem to offer a great value deal where you can pay £99 to get a 2014 race pass which gets you into 12 races. Very tempted if they do the same for 2015. Anyone know if the 3 wimbledon halfs this year have different medals?
the first Wimbledon half had the Womble and the second had the tennis racquet, the womble was such a hit they had them at the second race for anyone that wanted one. I already had the Womble from the first race and was kinda hoping it would be a different Womble, but it wasn't, so I had the tennis racquet, which is pretty cool too. They've promised something different for the third race in October. I would have done the Richmond Pk half to get a deer but 5 circuits of the (mostly uphill) parkrun course would have killed me. Brilliant medals and lovely low key races.
Hi Andy, I would certainly look at doing the halfs for sure. I haven't started planning runs for next year as yet but I will keep this in mind when I start. You doing Basingstoke in October mate, be good to catch up?

from today's wimbledon half. I like this one more than the option of a tennis racquet medal!
A medals thread ... I do like a medals thread.

The best- by far- is the Disney Marathon complete with moving parts!
As far as "art" is concerned the Rome Marathon will take some beating.
that Wimbledon one I was going to say, amazing!
Yes, I like that one too. Must check out that event and do it
Muttley I have an elephant thst does similar duties to your mutley
That is a great medal, will be looking at that one myself now
was a good event all round. low key, cheap but well marshalled on a nice trail course. definitely to be recommended.
giants head marathon.medals are really individual and worth having........
The long course weekend ones last year were amazing.3 different medals for the three different events and they could be locked together like a jigsaw
This year's Outlaw medal incorporated a bottle opener, which can only be a good thing
The Reading Half was a good'un this year?
The Up Tow Down Flow are unusual with their ink blot format.
The Rock and Roll medals are always bling.
The events I've done organised either by Dr Rob (http://www.trionium.com/) or Events to Live (http://www.eventstolive.co.uk/) have been blingtastic.
The Hurt - the medal like the run, is simple, pure pain! With loads of free chocolate brownies at the end so it makes it all worth while!

One which I forgot about - The Mad Dog 10k at Southport.
A great medal and even better t-shirt. One of the best events of the year !!!
Did the Richmond Park Half marathon yesterday (by RunThrough, the people who give out the Womble medals) and got a Deer medal, which is pretty cool.

Thx Stilts
I tempted by this deal too. Would you travel down for these events Loz?

Harvel 5 is a bottle opener (someone mentioned one earler) which is fab, and a really nice event to boot.
Hi Loz - I am planning to do that one, I agree, be good to catch up.
