Any suggestions as to what sort of fuel to buy for a sprint tri, and where to store it for ease of use. I have a belt and half a dozen SIS gels, but as it's my first triathlon i have no experience to tell if this is enough or not
you shouldn't need anything for a sprint, but if it's a hot day then some liquid/carbohydrate drink on the bike will be sufficient. Do please try the drink in advance of the event to make sure you can stomach it.
I would just have porridge and a banana for breakfast and an electrolyte tab in my water bottle on the bike. Personally I wouldn't use anything else for sprint distance, but there are more experienced people than me on here that will give you good advice.
For a sprint you shouldnt really need to carry anything extra round with you.
As long as you are well fuelled, and hydrated before. Maybe have some sports drink in your bike bottle just in case it is a scorching hot day.
When I used to dabble with Triathlon I often realised that I dragged round a lot of stuff that was not needed which seemed like a waste of weight and effort.
No wait!, there is a sprint tri specific flapjack available that according to the blurbs is guaranteed to reduce your time by 6%.....so eat three and ban 18% quicker. Now that Flapmaths.
One of their million brand ambassadors will come on here now and tell me off
anyhoo as said - you need nothing for a sprint tri and just some liquid if very hot. just make sure you've eaten well in the lead up, and are well hydrated.
Steve all you really need is water for the bike. I quite often have a bar of chocolate or flapjack in transition or on my bike just in case. Nothing to do with need in a sprint just because I'm a fat b*stard.
They could pay sarah £40 for a private consutation so she can say you don't need all this sh*t instead? Actually that's a good idea. Send everyone to sarah we can get a mortgage.

To be honest for a sprint you shouldn't need to worry about taking on any fuel. May a drink on the bike, but that's about it.
But if you really want to, you could tape a gel to the cross bar of your bike and have mid way through the bike ride.
Good luck and enjoy!!

I have only ever had a couple of gels on the bike at most.... you shouldn't need much, if anything, for a sprint distance.

But it does show the good job they have done in their marketing department.
Identify the growing tri market esp at short distances.....target the newbs with a piece of kit that only they make and watch the profits role in.

Gel whilst you're waiting to get in the water. Gel taped to the top tube.
