Thanks for all the best wishes, Schmunks is passing them all on. Time has been a bit tight what with all the various activities, bike prep etc. Today I was shopping for a new pair of bike shoes, having broken the cleats on mine a couple of weeks ago. Decided against a last minute purchase. Not through beging a Gaylord re trying something new on raceday, just that the only pair I liked were the $400 S-Works tri-shoes.
All going well at present, major bonus of the week so far was having one of the best burgers ive ate in years, anyone in Kona is recommended to try the Volcano burger at Splasher Grill (just across the road from King Kamehameha.
Such a great vibe around the place, everyone's so friendly and happy, it really is amazing.
That said, I was a bit taken aback when I first got here, there certainly are 'striking' outfits, there's a whiff of Ironman exhibitionism that im not totally enthused with?
Didn't make it to the underpants run im afraid, was busy test riding my bike this morning, then deciding on new shoes etc etc.
Probably file another report once ive racked tomorrow. Off to my first race briefing in years shortly (kinda thought as its Kona that id better go).
Bumped into RichardM when racking, and also an old work colleague who happens to be Hawaii on holiday. Said they were staying out by the Natural Energy Lab and would look out for me, hope theyre not planning an early night
Pirate flag is now flying on the hotel balcony (top floor, left of the two towers), look out for it on the Ironman feed.
Think this will be the first year in about 12 that I wont be watching the live feed. Lets hope some of the Brit girls can give Mirinda a run for her money.
I can't get the Athlete Tracker to find him on the laptop (yeah, I know he's not moving yet) (and calling him an athlete is stretching the realms of reality)
We are indeed Mousicles Hawaiian lager *check* streaming on big tellybox *check* ordering of Hawaiian pizza *check* Tedmond the Bear wearing David's lei *check*

Chances are you'll have regretted that! The most shambolic briefing I've ever been to - total waste of time!
Have fun & good luck!
So... your 'try something new for race day' is new bike shoes??
Classic
Good luck Barley, hope you have a great race.
New Product Benefit is not to be overlooked. I reckon at least an extra 1mph from shoes.
Oh, I read that as he hadn't bought the shoes
If anyone is up for some Barlos In Kona Armchair Supporting tomorrow his race number is 780
Racked and ready

Oh just in case of confusion, RichardM is not racing but out here supporting and what not.
go well Barley
I'll keep an eyeout for you on the live feed.......
Good luck Barley and enjoy yourself
Go Barley!
4:16am in Kona and no sign that Barlos is awake
I really hope he has set his alarm or that if he has, he hasn't sleep through it
Someone has woken up to this
Gulp - that's certainly got the butterflies going!
He'll probably be being body marked and weighed about now.
Go, Barley!!
Nope, he's just woken up and going off for brekkie
Exciting!!
+1
Go Barlos!
Just checking the requisite muffin is still on the handlebars
Have it on live on the laptop... Go on Coach
I can't get the Athlete Tracker to find him on the laptop (yeah, I know he's not moving yet) (and calling him an athlete is stretching the realms of reality)
Have just worked out how to sync laptop with TV... Get in! I appreciate I am a techno dunce
Is athlete tracker not working or are you being a dunce? Kidding kidding!
I will be watching Strictly and Inbetweeners 2 tonight
I have got Athlete Tracker on Ipad and found Coach, just can't see an 'enter' button for the search on my laptop
Didn't spot him at the start
He probably started with the elite!
I *love* that pic of Barley! Awesome stuff, go Barley!
Are you all set for the evening MrsF?
