Evening fellow beer enthusiasts! I'm off to Krakow in a few weeks and rather unpromisingly, my (admittedly dated) guide book likens the local brews to paint stripper! Can this be true? Any beers to be recommended and, possibly even more important, any to be avoided? If it is true, what decent alcoholic alternatives are there? I'm generally keen to drink the local tipples while on my hols but I do value my stomach!
Cheers!

Zyviec is a lovely pint. Strong stuff though so be careful. Think slighty stroger than Stella. You pronounce it Zee-vee-ets
Tyskie (5.6%) gets a big from me.
Thanks, Zyviec sounds good - may give Tyskie a go too as judging by the sheer number of discarded empties in my local park it must have something going for it...
Soz about that - i'll go back soon and pick em up
So I should think!
'Zywiec' is not to my liking as it has an odd citrus tang to it.
There is lots of 'Zubr' beer variants and some of them are nice, but I don't like the 'mocny' one which is dark, syrupy and 7%.
Get some testing done Peter and let me know , that's where I am heading in July.
Pilsner Urquel for me but Staropramen always seems to be the most popular, I think I visited their brewery the last time I was there but if I'm honest it's all a bit of a haze!
The thing to remember is the majority of beer over there is 10%+ if your getting it on draught!
in Krakow?
Some good tips, thanks to you all. Plenty of Polish delis near me so I'll do some homework!
Mokshaeight - I'll let you know but I'm not off until the end of June so perhaps a bit late for you.
Beerswiller - I do prefer draught so I'll bear that in mind!
plus Czech beer on draught isn't 10% plus.
It is usually 10 degrees (around 4%) or 12 degrees (4.5 - 5%)
10%+???? Wrong City, wrong country, WRONG PLANET!!
it was obviously quite a weekend.
