Last year I set myself a challenge to run a thousand miles in the 2015 Callander year and I completed the challenge today. This is a significant achievement for me as I've never done as much mileage as that before. Whilst there'll be many runners who do significantly more mileage in a year, it's still a landmark goal.
So why not set yourself this challenge for 2016 and become a member of the club.

I'm up for this,......again! Aiming for 1500 probably but we'll see how the first three months go.
After thinking about this, my target for next year will be 1200 (although I am hopeful of getting closer to 1300ish). A nice round 100 a month!
Definitely up for this.
2015 is 932 miles to date, but I think I will just miss the magic 1,000 this year, which is a bit gutting - but will aim to smash it in 2016!!
Will give it a go again in 2016. Just made at the beginning of the month this year.
Yesterday I completed 1695 miles (2727km) for the year - I usually try to do the year in Km (so my target was 2015km but am already on 2066Km)) and then add 50 miles (80km)of racing a month - this can include Parkruns as well as Ultras.
Am not very fast as it has taken me 301 hours of running time in total - but curiously, my race pace has been slower than my average training pace - I have no explanation other than I am pacing others as I train them - can anyone help with any other reason why this may happen please?
I've got a pair of 1000 miles socks. they guarantee that they won't wear out. Now I have always assumed that this pledge was made on the basis that no-one ever counts how many miles they have done in a pair of socks in order to take them up on this. However 1 year, 1000 miles. 1 pair of socks. that's a challenge. To the washing machine or people's noses anyway. Just thinking.
I'm up for this too...... Currently at 921 miles for 2015 so going to miss out this year.
Bring on 2016????
With three runs planned before the New Year (hoping to total 26 miles) I have done 417 miles in races and 1301 in training in a total of 305 hours of running this year - will have to work hard to maintain this next year so going to lower my target instead - am not getting any younger. Good luck to everyone for 2016
I'm up for this, I had hoped to get 1000 in 2015 but due to various injuries and illnesses I fell long short- currently at 850! Hopefully me stating my intention in a public forum will help me achieve it!
Okay first post then, not that I'm doing the challenge but we'll see how far I get. Half a mile warm up and parkrun this morning. Felt quite good all the way.
YTD = 3.61
Inspired by this thread, I looked back over my notes for 2015 and realised I had done about 850 miles- so 1000 seems a good aim.
Today 10m including my first Parkrun for almost 5 years. 990 to go.
7.5 miles including double parkrun. Some pain in my knee though so I hope I haven't hurt it- only a few weeks back in running after injury!
I will give this a go as well. Good luck to us all!
Not planning to run till Tuesday, but if an opportunity arises earlier then will have a run out.
Finished 2015 on 965 so keen to go the extra mile (or 35) to hit it this time around. Parkrun to start the year off in the morning.
Parkrun (plus a bit extra) with the kids this morning, very, very muddy
January - 3.35
I'm up for this, will be a slow start as I'm just getting back to it but the thread will help me get off my fat backside on those lazy days.
Drizzly slow jog to the gym and back, listening to predictions for 2016 on the radio. 2.5 miles.
Evening everyone, I'm 13 miles closer to the target already after back to back parkruns! 13.56 so far but both days were pretty tough so it might be a slow start to the year for me although I'm currently ahead of the curve!
Jan 13.56
2016 13.56
14.21 miles so far in 2 hours 15 minutes 14 seconds.
Have usual long Sunday training run in the morning.
This is fantastic motivator for all of us.
Well done everyone - lets all share our progress
Got a free morning tomorrow so will get out for my first run of the year.
Harmander - a few days ago I saw a short film about Fauja Singh which you played a prominent role in. Inspirational.
Malamlil,
Thank you.
I was just lucky to be in the right place at the right time. We are filming another short advert next week.
Got my 32nd consecutive London place - yippee
First run of the year
YTD. 10.08 miles
Nice easy 7.46m run this morning and weather was quite good despite it looking very gloomy.
YTD = 11.07m
Absolutely hammered down this morning, so I had some porridge and a coffee.....before heading out into glorious sunshine . Very, very muddy and flooded around the lanes, couldn't tell if I was on or off road! Great fun!
January 8.38
It's still hurling it down here & i am waiting for it to abate a little, before I brave the great outdoors today.
YTD = 10.9m
Enjoyed 3 miles in pouring rain to delay slightly doing the stuff I need to do before returning to work properly tomorrow. Took advantage of time to listen to really good advice on running and nutrition on today's radio 4 The Food Programme.It's vital to eat lots of carbs, but do avoid all carbs; milk is the best recovery nutrition; but it's best to be pretty much vegan. So there you have it.
I'd like to join you all too. I've set myself some pretty punchy targets this year - so this'll help to keep me on track and accountable!
Unfortunately, went into the end of last year and the New Year ill (incl. a dash to Derriford Hospital at 04:30 in the morning of the 31st!) so today will be my first run of 2016 - will report back after a soggy and gloomy (weather-wise - I'm not gloomy, I'm quite cheery today) plod...
Thanks for the nutrition advice Malamlil - gave me a laugh... typical journalists!
