I know we are all different shapes and sizes so will see which make gets the most thumbs up. Definitely no way will my current cycling shorts be comfortable enough for over 100 miles. It will be my first iron distance this year, so looking for the most comfy shorts.

Haven't read all the pages, but the ones I did read are just too funny. Love it. I will see if I can HTFU with some butter, and then look at trying different saddles.
I always cycle in tri shorts./less padding and so less to chaffe.... dont have any problems with them over long distances
Interesting. What saddle have you got Seren? I'd be so uncomfortable.in just my tri shorts.
Saddles and shorts are very personal things!! I use men's Endura shorts in IM or 2XU tri shorts for shorter races and a man's MTB saddle.
It's a case of trying to see what suits you best!
I am trying to toughen up a bit so I don't have to change to cycling shorts for full distance races!
I use the mens narrow Planet x one that came with the bike....Looking for a saddle that suits can be a very costly matter..When I first started I use to use some vaseline on my lady bits until I got used to the distance and from then on just wore thin tri shorts.....
I think any saddle will probably hurt when you are building up mileage for the first time...
longest ride was 250 miles in one day and not a rub anywhere
Wow. I will HTFU then. Sounds like it's just a case of getting used to longer in the saddle.
Thanks mouse. I have the Assos chamois cream and that does help enormously. Will see how I get on over the next couple of months, and if needs be try out some different saddles. Such a funny thread. Glad I posted now. Cheered up my dull day in the office.
I dont use any lotions or potions, a pair of tri shorts, 2XU or Sugoi with minimal padding and a good dose of HTFU and a bit of training ....horses for courses, trial and error
A pair of Endura's MT500 shorts clad my under-carriage for 850km of the Ho Chi Minh Trail a few years back. The highest temperature was 49 celsius with humidity of ~90%.
No chafing during the week over there, but very sore 'sit bones' after a couple of days, After that, I developed the thickened skin of a rhino and thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the week.
I still have the same pair of shorts over a decade later (shameful, I know), and run in them too (the padding is well squished). I would buy them again, even though the design has been developed a little since - the chamois looks a little more nappy-ish than it used to:
