I ran a marathon with zero training, it wasn't easy; I couldn't walk properly for two weeks. Like anything it's the reaching your potential/training that is hard.
Think your title should be, "Running" marathons is easy-Discuss. No, actually running all of the 26,2 is not easy, but just about anyone can complete the distance, but most have a walk at some stage!
The difficult bit is getting under 3 hours - anyone who says that is easy is either an elite or on a bike.
If he's running sub 3 aged 65 then odds are he didn't take up running until a relatively late age so never ran at an age when (theoretically) he'd have been capable of his quickest times. Mike Sheridan ran 2:54 aged 66 this year, which is his PB.

Yeah, I'd pretty much agree with your point of view. But then, same goes for many things, whether it be running, cycling, triathlon etc.
It's doing things well (or quickly, in this case) that is the difficult part.

who is the oldest person to go under 3 hours?
A guy in my club did 2:57 at the age of 65. Is that any good?
🙂
What did he run in his prime though Ric?

Ed Whitlock ran a 2:54 aged 73.
