Thanks both. November has been a bit of a disaster running wise as I got piriformis trouble at the start of the month and had to walk all of New York Marathon. It was still a great race but I want to go back and do it properly. The piriformis calmed down then I got lower back trouble. I managed a slow 99th marathon yesterday as I got a hip flexor niggle too so I might be walking round the caravan park for the next one.
Thanks all. First marathon was Edinburgh in about 2009. I hated but for some reason signed up again for the next year, plus got places for Malta and London and hated those too. I ran Edinburgh for the second time celebrating that it was my last ever marathon.
Edinburgh 2010 was my first. I was thinking you must have started about 20 years ago. That's phenomenal to have done that many. Congratulations and heal soon
Wow - we need to form a club! My first marathon was Edinburgh in... hmm... er... London was 2008 and I got in on the five refusals rule which was all I was trying to do after Edinburgh... so that would be 2003? I must look at the medal and see if it has a date.
So when you guys ran it was it still starting and finishing in Holyrood Park?
Becca, that is amazing to have done 100 in such a short time!
Hang on a mo though - here comes the discussion about what constitutes a marathon... years prior to that I'd done 4 K2Bs... but they aren't marathons... they are 40 mile ultras... its pitched as a walk, but I ran them, like a lot of other crazy people do... but what are the 100 Marathon Club rules, do they count towards the total?
My first marathon was the inaugural Greater Manchester Marathon in April 2012. My first ultra was a couple of months earlier - the London Ultra (50K) in February 2012. Beachy Head this year was marathon/ultra number 25 for me and of course I'm hoping to complete number 35 by sometime on 3rd December...
Having finished London to shortcut stupid conversations with people who think it's the only marathon, I have no wish to run any more big city marathons - I strongly prefer trail ultras and low-key events.
Congratulations on the 100th finish Becca, that's mighty impressive in < 10 years!
30 mile run ticked off for me on Sunday, ~4 mins slower than last year but who's counting Have my first ever trail event (26k)in the Dublin mountains next Sat, bit worried about how that will go but nothing ventured, nothing gained I guess.
working full time and commuting is killing me.love working but struggling with training. In bed by 7pm most nights so trying to get it in early......just trying to get into some routine before christmas to ramp up the training....
Can manage 8 miles now......
entered for Llanelli and Newport marathons in April
Five days into my 10-in-10. Was doing fine but now been struck by a cold, so wish me luck. Here's the bling so far... Weather has been a lot better than expected. Hugin Challenge yesterday was trail and I really enjoyed it. Relativity Run today was horrible - endless flat concrete. However the medal is great (and six inches across!). I'm raising money for Mission Rabies if anyone wants to support them: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/debra-bourne
How’s it going Debra? Hope you’re managing to keep warm!
Has everyone noticed there’s been an outbreak of common sense at Comrades HQ and they’ve agreed to accept chip times as qualifiers again? Which they always did anyway, despite flatly denying it in public .
RR: That's great news about Comrades HQ being sensible.
Note: I got my recent 2nd notice or whatever it's called and it didn't mention whether or not I was qualified in the information! Is this normal? Do I need to re-state my qualification?
Southern Snail, Mr Zuvai: thanks!
RR: yes, keeping warm - yesterday I wore four layer on the top half, windproof trousers over Skins, and hat, gloves and buff - only my eyes showing for most of the time. Had a horrible cold that really made Tuesday and yesterday tough - and it's the longest course (26.8 miles officially, 27.3 on my Garmin) and very strong winds and concrete sea wall to run on. Finished in just over 5 hrs Tuesday, jut under yesterday. Today at Ramsgate I was back to about 4:32, so obviously feeling better - and a more varied course (well, tarmac throughout, but with some uphill and downhill sections). Back there tomorrow, then Betteshanger trail path for the last two - assuming I don't twist an ankle or anything.

That K2B race might count. Walking events are only excluded if running is prohibited. The idea of walking 40 miles is horrific.
