Appreciate it's a little frustrating for newbies (like me!) but definitely less frustrating than the forum being full of posts for little blue pills
Anyone with knee pain? Clinically, the knee should be thought of as a joint of consequence. If your knee hurts, there's every chance it's just the result of some back, hip or knee dysfunction changing the way you load your knee.
Anyone with flat feet? Its important to think of flat feet not as a foot problem, but a leg problem. If your ankles are stiff and hips tight/weak, the entire leg internally rotates and collapses the arch. So any attempts to block collapsing arches with orthotics/arch support will certainly stop the arch from collapsing, but wont stop it from wanting to collapse.
Back pain? If you're not paying close attention to the positions and shapes you leave your back in throughout the day (most likely sitting), you're missing potentially THE biggest underlying factor in its presence.
Hip flexor pain? Pain at the front of the hip associated with the hip flexor is usually a symptoms of one of two things. Either your back is stiff or your hip joint is stiff. These change the demands of the hip flexor setting it up to become sore with running.
Footwear is always an intersting topic of conversation within the running community. For me, if you can't tolerate running barefoot or in barefoot shoes, then there's something missing within the quality of your mechanics. Likely a stiff ankle, tight hip, stiff back etc.
