If they're old enough to read then it's too late. I think a good example of how well balanced kids can be if raised in a household not afraid to swear you only have to look at the Osbournes...............oh no, hang about, forget that.
I am alone in finding nothing funnier than someones toddlers losing it with parents at the shops and letting lose with every swear word they know whilst stamping their tiny feet and going purple in the face. That's the lst time they let Grandpa babysit.
as the former itfar s***rift, the name was chosen for 1)it was funny..not rude 2)having read about the guy's exploits.he deserved recognition. as someone who works with foreign students i come across amny names which are funny to our ears/eyes.i have aslo spoken to the same students who have said that many english/anglo saxon names have quite different meanings in their languages.the point is that we can all laugh at language without causing or taking offence. frankly it's people's actions that cause greater pain and offence....and yes i realise that name calling does hurt but that's not what i'm talking about.
Of course there are sensible limits (which we are all capable of recognising). The so-called offensive name was nothing of the sort but for in the minds of the few prudes who complained (wasting time on a such trivial gripe, sad people or what? Have they really nothing better to do? How about they get into the real world and get a life!). Common sense, that's what's needed, not over-reaction every time some over-zealous Mary Whitehouse wannabe dicates that something is not suitable for the rest of us to see.
don't take it personally trinity. I think he was just ranting. There's all sorts of stuff I wouldn't let my children see on the forum. But "Itfar S**trift...." was not one of them.
can I ask for a little decorum amongst antagonists please and just let this thread die. there's no right and wrong here - just an element of personal feeling about what should be seen or not seen
I'm surprised this is a big deal. Swearing ofends some people and they are entitled to complain, aren't they. Then RW make some kind of a judgement. I generally agree with Trinity's view on how to apply that judgement.
I swear a bit in real life. But I don't demand the right to do it unfettered at work. I don't see this as an invasion of my human rights - more a case of striking a balance in a society where people hold differing views (thank goodness).
Itfar chose his name, I'm guessing, because it had funny swearwords. It won't kill him to change it. And its hardly censorship, more like moderation. On a moderated web site.

Unless you want it to be restricted to adults and you have to give credit card details and pay to get in.
If the rules offend you, then maybe you should host a site of your own ? Unrestricted running ?
I wouldn't expect to go into a library and start shouting the odds about having to be quiet, and where's the XXX books from Holland (or summat).
